Background: Since the discovery of SARS-CoV-2, no treatment has been able to completely eradicate the virus. The study aimed to evaluate the virological and clinical impact of the vaccination in SARS-CoV-2 infected patients treated with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs).

Methods: This single-centre, observational, retrospective, real-life study was performed on SARS-CoV-2 symptomatic outpatients and inpatients treated with mAbs from March 2021 to November 2022 includes 726 patients.

A New Ex Vivo Model Based on Mouse Retinal Explants for the Study of Ocular Toxoplasmosis.

Safety and efficacy of cryopexy during pars Plana vitrectomy in rhegmatogenous retinal detachment.

Purpose: To evaluate efficacy and safety of intraoperative cryoretinopexy in cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD).

Methods: In this retrospective, interventional case series, we review the medical records of 85 consecutive cases of RRD treated with pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponade, without the use of perfluorocarbon liquids. Baseline best-corrected visual acuity, intraocular pressure, number and location of retinal breaks, location and extension of retinal detachment, duration of symptoms, macula status, presence, and grade of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) were registered.

Refractive error after combined phaco-vitrectomy: A multicentric study.

Purpose: To study the post-operative refractive error (RE) of patients undergoing combined phaco-vitrectomy and to find out which intraocular lens (IOL)-power formula had the best refractive outcomes.

Methods: In this retrospective multicentric study we compared the preoperative expected target with the postoperative RE of patients undergoing combined phaco-vitrectomy due to vitreomacular traction, macular pucker, full thickness macular hole or lamellar macular hole. A multinomial logistic regression was performed to compare the postoperative REs and the differences between expected and postoperative REs among the SRK-T, Olsen's and Holladay-2 formulas.

S-Nitrosylation of cysteine residues is an important molecular mechanism for dynamic, post-translational regulation of several proteins, providing a ubiquitous redox regulation. Cys residues are present in several fluorescent proteins (FP), including members of the family of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP)-derived FPs, where two highly conserved cysteine residues contribute to a favorable environment for the autocatalytic chromophore formation reaction. The effect of nitric oxide on the fluorescence properties of FPs has not been investigated thus far, despite the tremendous role FPs have played for 25 years as tools in cell biology.

Morpho-functional analysis of the early changes induced in retinal ganglion cells by the onset of diabetic retinopathy: The effects of a neuroprotective strategy.

Purpose: Retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) are highly susceptible to diabetes-induced metabolic stress. This study describes the early responses of RGCs to hyperglycemia and examines the effects of the neuroprotective somatostatin analog octreotide (OCT).

The Role of Silicone Oil in the Surgical Management of Endophthalmitis: A Systematic Review.

(1) Background: We aimed to systematically review the current literature to evaluate if in patients with postoperative endophthalmitis treated with pars plana vitrectomy, silicone oil tamponade could provide a useful contribution to the control and eradication of infection and if it could influence anatomical recovery and functional outcome. (2) Randomized controlled trials, cross-sectional studies, case series, and case reports published in the English language in peer-reviewed journals were included. No restriction was placed based on the study location.

Flavin-based fluorescent proteins (FbFPs), a class of small fluorescent proteins derived from light-oxygen-voltage (LOV) domains, bind ubiquitous endogenous flavins as chromophores. Due to their unique properties, they can be used as versatile in vivo reporter proteins under aerobic and anaerobic conditions. This chapter presents methodologies for in-depth characterization of the biochemical, spectroscopic, photophysical, and photochemical properties of FbFPs.

Deconstructing the flight paths of hippocampal-lesioned homing pigeons as they navigate near home offers insight into spatial perception and memory without a hippocampus.

The aim of this study was to exploit detailed analyses of GPS-recorded tracks to better characterise the impact of hippocampal (HF) lesion on spatial memory and perception in the context of homing pigeon navigation when reliant on familiar landscape features near the home loft following repeated releases from the same three locations. As reported previously, following HF lesion, a low spatio-temporal resolution analysis revealed that homing pigeons fly less direct paths home once near the loft. We now further show that 1) HF-lesioned pigeons are less likely to display fidelity to a particular flight path home when released from the same locations multiple times, 2) intact pigeons are more likely to exploit leading-line landscape features, e.

Comparison of two different scleral fixation techniques of posterior chamber Carlevale lens.

To investigate the surgical outcomes of 2 different scleral fixation techniques of the new single-piece foldable acrylic Carlevale lens (Soleko) and to compare our results with previous reports of the literature.A retrospective, non-randomized comparative study involving 2 series of patients who underwent 2 different scleral fixation techniques of Carlevale lens was performed. Minimum follow-up of 3 months was requested for inclusion in the study.

The Potential of Lisosan G as a Possible Treatment for Glaucoma.

Lisosan G (LG), a fermented powder obtained from whole grains, is a nutritional supplement containing a variety of metabolites with documented antioxidant properties. We have recently demonstrated that orally administered LG protects diabetic rodent retinas from oxidative stress, inflammation, apoptosis, blood-retinal barrier disruption, and functional damage. Here, we investigated whether LG may exert protective effects in a model of glaucoma and measured the amounts of selected LG components that reach the retina after oral LG administration.
