Tomography was used to supplement 327 oral cholecystograms in which the findings, including nonvisualized gallbladder, were inconclusive. In 136 cases, operative and tomographic findings were correlated. In 286 cases (87%), tomography provided conclusive diagnostic information.

Passive cutaneous anaphylaxis (PCA) has been demonstrated in young and adult domestic fowl using antisera obtained from actively sensitized chickens on the day of their maximal susceptibility to systemic anaphylaxis. Young chickens are more sensitive to histamine and PCA reaction than adults. The PCA reaction was inhibited by the H1-histamine receptor blocker, mepyramine.

To test the effect of thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) on serum arginine vasopressin (AVP) in euthyroid and hypothyroid individuals, 500 mug of TRH was administered to four euthyroid subjects and three patients with primary hypothyroidism. Serum AVP was significantly depressed below basal levels from 30 to 60 min in the euthyroid and hypothyroid subjects after administering the releasing agent. The basal serum AVP in the hypothyroid subjects (3.

Role demands have been found to be extremely important in the formation of attitudes and values. Attitudes and values of police and nonpolice concerning authoritarianism, punitiveness, and ethics were examined. Three hypotheses were tested: (a) Authoritarianism and punitiveness will differ as a function of particular police roles, (b) Police and police science majors will have more punitive attitudes than nonpolice.

Although recent investigations have contributed greatly to our understanding of the function and regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid axis, much remains unclear. The influence of suprahypothalamic areas of the brain on hypothalamic function, the nature of thyroid hormone feedback on the hypothalamus, and the physiologis sugnificance of prolactin release by TRH are all topics requiring further study. The extensive experience which has been accululated in the use of TRH as a diagnostic tool has led to its acceptance as a safe, convenient, rapid method of assessment of pituitary and thyroid function.

Thirteen turkeys naturally affected with hemorrhagic enteritis were studied pathologically. The main gross lesions were splenomegaly and hemorrhagic contents in the gut. The main histological lesions were intranuclear inclusion bodies in largemononuclear cells in many visceral organs and in reticular cells around the sheathed arteries of the spleens and varying degrees of lymphocytic hyperplasia in most tissues.

Twenty-four 4-week-old poults, free from Mycoplasma meleagridis and M. gallisepticum, were inoculated with a velogenic viscerotropic strain of Newcastle disease virus. Clinical signs (gasping, coughing, and dyspnea) developed 4-5 days postinoculation, continued until nervous derangement appeared, and then (usually 3 days after initial clinical signs appeared) declined in severity.

The spleen, liver, bone marrow and intestines of two turkeys in which hemorrhagic enteritis of turkeys was experimentally reproduced were examined electron-microscopically. Intranuclear inclusion bodies as described in a previous report were found in all the tissues examined. These occupied most of the area in affected nuclei and were composed of viral particles with morphological characteristics of an adenovirus.

Diverticula rarely occur within the lumen of the duodenum. They arise near the papilla of Vater and extend distally. The diverticulum is lined on both sides with duodenal mucosa, and its eccentric opening is usually proximal in the sac.

Heat capacities of two polyethylene samples, one linear with a density of 0.973 g cm and one branched with a density of 0.91 g cm, have been determined by adiabatic calorimetry from 5 to 360 K in a different experimental arrangement then employed for studies of other polyethylene samples in this series.

Sixty-two pancreases were dissected at autopsy. In 55 of them, the pancreatic ducts were filled with 50 per cent Hypaqje and roentgenograms were made prior to dissection. Clinical information (available in every case) was correlated with the gross and microscopic findings and findings on the pancreatograms.

Out of 8 patients with Whipple's disease, 7 had roentgenographic findings consisting of slight dilatation of the small bowel, with thickening of the mucosal folds. The eighth patient had no abnormality on roentgenographic study. This series represents the first in which the roentgenographic changes have been quantitatively assessed.

Adding ascorbic acid to a practical ration deficient in vitamin E and selenium for the growing duck substantially reduced associated mortality. The continued appearance of various myopathies but absence of vascular faults supported implication of a reduced de novo ascorbate synthesis as part of the syndrome. Presumably, alleviation of this induced secondary inadequacy with its more lethal pathology was the primary reason for the lower death rate.

The carcass of a great horned owl (Bubo virginianus), which had been found moribund in southern Ontario, was presented for necropsy. Throughout the liver and spleen were numerous white foci 1-2 mm in diameter; also noted were white plaques in the mucosae of the pharyngeal papillae and intestine. Results of light and electron microscopic studies and experimental transmission to two captive great horned owls suggested that this was a herpvirus disease similar and possibly indentical to the owl disease reported by other workers in Wiconsin and Australia.

Pathological and clinical studies were carried out on turkeys experimentally infected with a suspension of the spleen and intestine of birds spontaneously affected with haemorrhagic enteritis. Clinically the birds became depressed and developed a blood tinged diarrhoea. Histologically, the essential lesions were the formation of intranuclear inclusion bodies in reticuloendothelial cells and a lymphocytic reaction in many tissues.

An outbreak of reticuloendotheliosis occurred in a flock of Japanese quail. The most striking and consistent lesion observed was a marked thickening and nodular formations along the digestive tract. Other organs were involved with varying degrees of frequency, with tumour masses being observed in the lungs, liver, spleen, heart, pancreas, caeca! tonsils, ovary, kidney, airsacs, thyroid glands, testes and sciatic nerves.
