Background: Despite extensive theoretical debate, empirical research on medical aid in dying (MAID) largely has disregarded broader, contextual factors as potential correlates of attitudes in hospice clinicians.
Objective: Informed by institutional theory and neofunctional attitude theory, the objective of the current study was to quantitatively examine hospice clinicians' attitudes toward MAID as functions of institutional characteristics relating to (Aim 1) individual adherence to hospice values and (Aim 2) state law.
Design: We used a cross-sectional design.
Introduction: Malnutrition contributes to 45% of all childhood deaths globally, but these modelled estimates lack direct measurements in countries with high malnutrition and under-5 mortality rates. We investigated malnutrition's role in infant and child deaths in the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) network.
Methods: We analysed CHAMPS data from seven sites (Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mali, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and South Africa) collected between 2016 and 2023.
Background: Although medical aid in dying (MAID) legalization continues to expand across the United States, limited research has elucidated attitudes toward its clinical provision, especially in terms of clinician presence.
Objective: The objective of the current study was to explore attitudes toward presence throughout a patient's death via MAID in hospice physicians, nurses, social workers, and chaplains. Aims included (1) characterizing willingness to be present throughout patient death via MAID and (2) describing rationales for willingness.
Background: Institutional trauma registries, which contribute data to the National Trauma Data Bank, are a fundamental resource for trauma research, though may have significant deficits in data accuracy. We hypothesize that inaccuracies in shooting intent exist at institutional registries of pediatric trauma centers.
Methods: Pediatric firearm injuries (ages 0-17 years) in a single county between 2018 and 2020 were identified from three Level I trauma centers.

To characterize the sociological risk factors for firearm intimate partner violence (IPV) among women in Texas, with a focus on lethal predictors to aid in screening and intervention guidelines. A retrospective medical and forensic chart review was conducted and supplemented by news sources, public police reports, and court records on firearm cases in Houston, TX, from 2018 to 2020. IPV was defined as a cis-gendered female victim of firearm violence from a current or ex-intimate partner.

Since the separation run time and stationary phase selection are crucial for effective PLS modeling, we study these GC parameters on the prediction of viscosity, density and hydrogen content for 50 aerospace fuels. Due to the diversity of compounds in the fuels (primarily alkanes, cycloalkanes, and aromatics), we explore both polar and non-polar stationary phase columns.

Lower hemoglobin is an independent factor associated with fatigue in hemodialysis patients. Hemodiafiltration use in patients age ≥85 years is associated with a longer dialysis recovery time.

Research Design And Methods: A secondary analysis was conducted on a sample of 75 nursing home-dwelling persons living with dementia who exhibited CRBs during mouth care activities. Over 21 days, CRBs were measured using the revised Resistiveness to Care scale (RTC-r) during morning and afternoon mouth care sessions.
Chemometric decomposition methods like multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares (MCR-ALS) are often employed in gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) to improve analyte identification and quantitation. However, these methods can perform poorly for analytes with a low chromatographic resolution (R) and a high degree of spectral contamination from noise and background interferences. Thus, we propose a novel computational algorithm, termed mzCompare, to improve analyte identification and quantitation when coupled to MCR-ALS.

We hypothesized that physicians would use evidence-based trusted care pathways if they were easy to use and integrated into clinical workflow at the point of care.
Methods: Within a large integrated care delivery system, we assembled clinical experts to define and update drug treatment pathways, encoded them as flowcharts in an online library integrated with the electronic medical record, communicated expectations that clinicians would use these pathways for every eligible patient, and combined data from multiple sources to understand usage over time.
Background: Perianal fistulas are painful ulcers or sinus tracts that disproportionately affect German shepherd dogs and are proposed as a spontaneous animal model of fistulising Crohn's disease.
Objectives: To characterise the rectal and cutaneous microbiota in German shepherd dogs with perianal fistulas and to investigate longitudinal shifts with lesion resolution during immunomodulatory therapy.
Animals: Eleven German shepherd dogs with perianal fistulas and 15 healthy German shepherd dogs.

Cultural narratives shape how we think about the world, including how we decide when the end of life begins. Hospice care has become an integral part of the end-of-life care in the United States, but as it has grown, its policies and practices have also imposed cultural narratives, like those associated with the "six-month rule" that the majority of the end of life takes place in the final six months of life. This idea is embedded in policies for a range of care practices and reimbursement processes, even though six months is not always a meaningful marker.

Adaptive ARs may contribute to active coping, whereas maladaptive avoidance habits are implicated in anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorders. The AR learning mechanism has remained elusive, as successful avoidance trials produce no obvious reinforcer.

Our objective was to determine the frequency of delays in the "Three Delays-in-Healthcare", and factors associated with delays, among deceased infants and children in seven countries with high childhood mortality. We conducted a retrospective, descriptive study using data from verbal autopsies and medical records for infants and children aged 1-59 months who died between December 2016 and February 2022 in six sites in sub-Saharan Africa and one in South Asia (Bangladesh) and were enrolled in Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS).

However, accurate estimates of malaria prevalence and causality among patients who die at the country level are lacking due to the limited specificity of diagnostic tools used to attribute etiologies. Accurate estimates are crucial for prioritizing interventions and resources aimed at reducing malaria-related mortality.

Background: Pediatric firearm injury is often associated with socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhoods. Most studies only include fatal injuries and do not differentiate by shooting intent. We hypothesized that differences in neighborhood socioeconomic disadvantage would be observed among shooting intents of fatal and nonfatal cases.

This may lead to ventilator-induced lung injury by altering or depleting surfactant. The role of sigh breaths in reducing ventilator-induced lung injury among trauma patients at risk of poor outcomes is unknown.

Methods: At baseline, women (n = 3205) reported their occupation and frequency of 15 LUTS. Using the US Department of Labor's Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) system, we categorized women into 11 standard occupational groups.
Pseudouridimycin (PUM) is a microbially produced C-nucleoside dipeptide that selectively targets the nucleotide addition site of bacterial RNA polymerase (RNAP) and that has a lower rate of spontaneous resistance emergence relative to current drugs that target RNAP. Despite its promising biological profile, PUM undergoes relatively rapid decomposition in buffered aqueous solutions. Here, we describe the synthesis, RNAP-inhibitory activity, and antibacterial activity of chemically stabilized analogues of PUM.

Our objective was to describe adherence to World Health Organization recommendations for the management of leading causes of death among children.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective, descriptive study examining clinical data for children aged 1-59 months who were hospitalized and died in a Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) catchment, December 2016-June 2021.
