To investigate the impacts of biophysical factors on light response of net ecosystem exchange (NEE), CO2 flux was measured using the eddy covariance technique in a winter wheat field in the North China Plain from 2003 to 2006. A rectangular hyperbolic function was used to describe NEE light response. Maximum photosynthetic capacity (P max) was 46.

Mild obesity is associated with greater survival in patients with the disease, and calorie-dense diets increased survival in a mouse model. We aimed to assess the safety and tolerability of two hypercaloric diets in patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis receiving enteral nutrition.

It is a genetic disorder characterized by a specific and a recognizable pattern of anomalies. The major clinical features are ocular coloboma, heart malformations, atresia of the choanae, growth retardation, genital hypoplasia, and ear abnormalities.

However, no quality assurance study has been conducted to show variations or biases in peritoneal lavage cytology results. The aim of this study was to demonstrate a test execution variation in peritoneal lavage cytology between investigating surgeons.

Methodology: We performed genome-wide linkage scan using Illumina Human 660W-Quad BeadChip and exome sequencing analyses using Agilent SureSelect Human All Exon Kits in a multiplex Chinese DUH family to identify the pathogenic mutations and verified the candidate mutations using Sanger sequencing. Quantitative RT-PCR and Immunohistochemistry was performed to verify the expression of the pathogenic gene, Zebrafish was also used to confirm the functional role of ABCB6 in melanocytes and pigmentation.

Context: Living in a prediabetes state significantly increases a patient's risk for both diabetes and cardiovascular disease. Tianqi capsule, containing 10 Chinese herbal medicines, is used in China for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess whether Tianqi prevented T2DM in subjects with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) over the course of a 12-month treatment.
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) participate in diverse biological pathways and may act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in miRNAs (MirSNPs) might promote carcinogenesis by affecting miRNA function and/or maturation; however, the association between MirSNPs reported and cancer risk remain inconsistent. Here, we investigated the association between nine common MirSNPs and cancer risk using data from large scale case-control studies.

IDH1 mutations are significant in both diagnosis and prognosis of these conditions. In the present study we determined the prevalence and clinical significance of IDH1 mutations in 349 samples from newly diagnosed AML patients.

It is considered to be a complex disease, to which both genetic and environmental factors contribute. Our previous study has shown a potential interaction of C1GALT1-330G/T and IL5RA31 + 197A/G on the susceptibility of IgAN in Southern Han Chinese.

The effects of DNA demethylation on gene expression in dsRNA transfected swine cells are unclear. The study aims to profile the transcriptome changes which are induced by DNA methyltransferase inhibitor (Aza-CdR) in porcine PK15 cells transfected with viral-like dsRNA (Poly(I:C)).

Objective: To investigate the possibility of gene therapy of osteolysis around artificial joint prosthesis by constructing the recombinant adenovirus which can silence tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha).
Methods: The primer of small interfering RNA (siRNA) coding sequence of silent TNF-alpha was designed and amplified, and then RAPAD adenovirus packaging system was used to load the sequence to adenovirus, and the recombinant adenovirus Ad5-TNF-a-siRNA-CMVeGFP which lacked both E1 and E3 regions was constructed. Then 64 female BABL/C mice (weighing, 20-25 g) were randomly divided into 4 groups (n=16): blank control (group A), positive control (group B), simple adenovirus (group C), and treatment group (group D).

Objective: To observe effects of acupuncture combined speech therapy for cerebral palsy children with linguistic retardation.
Methods: Totally 132 cerebral palsy children were randomly assigned to the speech training group (Group A, 44 cases) and the routine acupuncture combined speech training group (Group B, 44 cases), and the acupuncture combined speech training group (Group C, 44 cases). Patients in Group A received one to one training including game therapy, therapy of communication attitudes, and so on.
Objective: Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are associated with oxidative stress and inflammatory response. We investigated the hypothesis that the known antioxidant ascorbic acid, which can also promote elastin and collagen production by smooth muscle cells, would prevent AAA formation in a rat model.
Methods: An intraluminal elastase and extraluminal calcium chloride-induced rat AAA model was used, and the animals were divided into three groups: control (group C, n = 18), the aorta wrapped with a saline-impregnated gelatin hydrogel sheet (group G, n = 18), and the aorta wrapped with a gelatin hydrogel sheet incorporating ascorbic acid (group A, n = 18).
Objective: To investigate the effect of moxibustion-acupoint treatment with acupoints of Zusanli (ST 36) and Zhongwan (RN 12) on cell apoptosis and the expressions of heat shock protein (HSP) 60, HSP70 and second mitochondrial activator of caspase (Smac) in rat models of acute gastric mucosal lesion (AGML), and explore the mechanisms underlying protection of gastric mucosal lesion.
Methods: Twenty-four Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 3 groups, blank controlled group (group A), controlled-point group (group B) and acupoint group (group C), 8 for each. After 8-day moxibustion treatment in group B and C, gastric lavage of anhydrous ethanol was used to created AGML in all three groups.

The specific π-π interactions between curved and planar structures, which are different from the general π-π interactions between planar arenes, have generated great attention due to their brand-new, unique, and fascinating photoelectric properties. Herein, the curved-planar (C-P) π-π interactions between corannulene, pyrene and coronene have been investigated using the DFT-D method. A series of structural and physical properties have been calculated including geometry, C-C distance, binding energy, population charge distribution, dipole moment, electrostatic potential (ESP), visualization of the interactions in real space, transfer integral, electronic transition behaviour and Raman shift.

Improved control of BP and TC has been shown to reduce the risks of cardiovascular disease (CVD), which has placed a heavy economic burden on the health care system. However, no study has evaluated the cost-effectiveness of pharmacist intervention programs with respect to the long-term preventive effects on CVD outcomes among T2DM patients.
