The tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase from Bacillus subtilis was purified to homogeneity and characterized. It has an alpha 2 subunit structure and a molecular weight of 77,000. Tryptophanyl-tRNA synthetase does not catalyze any significant proofreading.
