Purpose: To use neural network machine learning (ML) models to identify the most relevant ocular biomarkers for the diagnosis of primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
Methods: Neural network models, also known as multi-layer perceptrons (MLPs), were trained on a prospectively collected observational dataset comprised of 93 glaucoma patients confirmed by a glaucoma specialist and 113 control subjects. The base model used only intraocular pressure, blood pressure, heart rate, and visual field (VF) parameters to diagnose glaucoma.
The controlled dynamization of fractures can promote natural fracture healing by callus formation, while overly rigid fixation can suppress healing. The advent of locked plating technology enabled new strategies for the controlled dynamization of fractures, such as far cortical locking (FCL) screws or active plates with elastically suspended screw holes. However, these strategies did not allow for the use of non-locking screws, which are typically used to reduce bone fragments to the plate.

Hepatitis B virus-related HCC (HBV-HCC) harbors a unique genetic mutation, namely, the HBV integration, among other somatic endogenous gene mutations. We explored a combination of HBV DNA integrations and common somatic mutations to classify HBV-HCC by using a capture-sequencing platform.

Current technologies, such as patch clamp, penetrating microelectrodes, planar electrode arrays and substrate-attached flexible electrodes, do not allow chronic recording of organoids in suspension, which is necessary to preserve architecture. Inspired by kirigami art, we developed flexible electronics that transition from a two-dimensional to a three-dimensional basket-like configuration with either spiral or honeycomb patterns to accommodate the long-term culture of organoids in suspension.

However, the xenogenic Matrigel requires sophisticated quality-assurance processes to meet clinical requirements. In this study, we develop an innovative coating-free medium for expanding hPSCs.

The emergence of COVID-19 has caused unprecedented impacts on global public health and many other aspects. Meanwhile, many types of methods have been developed to detect the causative agent, SARS-CoV-2; this has greatly advanced the technologies in the diagnostic field. Here, we describe the development and validation of a sample-in-result-out POCKIT Central SARS-CoV-2 PCR system for detecting SARS-CoV-2 in comparison with a commercial reference real-time RT-PCR assay (TaqPath COVID-19 Combo Kit).

Via local Ca transfer at close mitochondria-SR contacts, cardiac excitation feedforward regulates mitochondrial ATP production to match surges in demand (excitation-bioenergetics coupling). However, pathological stresses may cause mitochondrial Ca overload, excessive reactive oxygen species production and permeability transition, risking homeostatic collapse and myocyte loss.

We aimed to evaluate the safety and outcomes of revascularization treatments in patients with AIS and COVID-19.
Methods: This was a retrospective multicenter cohort study of consecutive patients with AIS receiving intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) and/or endovascular treatment (EVT) between March 2020 and June 2021 tested for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 infection.
Background: Promotion of hematoma resolution in a timely manner reduces intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) brain injury induced by toxic blood components and subsequent neuroinflammation. The meningeal lymphatic system is responsible for clearance of macromolecules and pathogenic substances from the central nervous system; however, its role in intraparenchymal hematoma clearance and ICH outcomes is unknown. In the present study, we aimed to understand the contribution of the meningeal lymphatic system to ICH pathologies and to test whether pharmacological enhancement of meningeal lymphatic function promotes hematoma resolution and brain recovery after ICH.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional, observational, retrospective study across 6 continents, 70 countries, and 457 stroke centers. Diagnoses were identified by their ICD-10 codes or classifications in stroke databases.
Background Treatment of blunt splenic trauma (BST) continues to evolve with improved imaging for detection of splenic vascular injuries. Purpose To report on treatments for BST from 11 trauma centers, the frequency and clinical impact of splenic vascular injuries, and factors influencing treatment. Materials and Methods Patients were retrospectively identified as having BST between January 2011 and December 2018, and clinical, imaging, and outcome data were recorded.

Methods: Between February and October 2018, HIV/HBV-coinfected patients who had achieved HIV viral suppression with tenofovir disoproxil fumarate-containing regimens were switched to E/C/F/TAF. Assessments of plasma HBV and HIV viral load, HBV serology, renal function, lipid profiles, and bone mineral density (BMD) were performed at weeks 24 and 48 after switch.
Introduction: Infertility may negatively impact sexual function. Women with fertility problems usually prioritize treatment for infertility, but their sexual function in each trimester of pregnancy is poorly researched.
Aim: To compare the sexual function and sexual healthcare needs of women who underwent successful in vitro fertilization (IVF group) and women who conceived naturally (CN group) during each trimester.
Introduction: Patients' sexual concerns are private, sensitive issues, and providing sexual health care (SHC) is a legitimate area of concern for the nursing practice.
Aims: This study tests a structural equation model for factors that affect SHC among Taiwanese nurses.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was performed between August 2014 and July 2015.
Nutritional therapy is a cornerstone of burns management. The optimal macronutrient intake for wound healing after burn injury has not been identified, although high-energy, high-protein diets are favoured. The present study aimed to identify the optimal macronutrient intake for burn wound healing.

This study investigated firstly its secondary metabolites, leading to the isolation of five major caffeoylquinic acid derivatives (1-5) from the ethanol extract. In addition, ten minors, including three caffeoylquinic acid derivatives (12-14), were characterized via assistance of HPLC-SPE-NMR.

We have explored the effects of genetically deleting SLC6A3 in zebrafish. Unlike the wild-type, slc6a3-/- fish hover near the tank bottom, with a repetitive digging-like behavior.

The knockdown of ATF1 expression significantly up-regulated neuroectoderm (NE) genes but not mesoderm, endoderm, and trophectoderm genes. Of note, down-regulation or knockout of ATF1 with short hairpin RNA (shRNA), small interfering RNA (siRNA), or clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats (CRISPR)/CRISPR-associated protein 9 (Cas9) was sufficient to up-regulate sex-determining region Y-box (SOX)2 and paired box 6 (PAX6) expression under the undifferentiated or differentiated conditions, whereas overexpression of ATF1 suppressed NE differentiation.

We developed the SET index to measure gene expression microarray probe sets that were correlated with hormone receptors ( and ) and robust to preanalytical and analytical influences. We tested SET index in biopsies of metastastic HR+/HER2- breast cancer against the treatment outcomes in 140 patients.

Some serotypes cause more severe diseases than the other; severe dengue is associated with secondary infections by a different serotype. Timely serotyping can provide early warning of dengue epidemics to improve management of patients and outbreaks.
