Introduction: There is a paucity of data evaluating early initiation of sodium-glucose cotransporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) in patients with diabetes following acute coronary syndrome (ACS) and coronary artery bypass graft surgery (CABG).

Objectives: To describe the efficacy and safety of SGLT2i initiated early after CABG in patients with type 2 diabetes who experienced ACS.

Methods: This is a retrospective cohort study of patients with type 2 diabetes (T2DM) who experienced ACS and subsequent CABG with follow up at 3 and 12 months.

Objective: Despite increased use of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs), limited evidence guides their use in the early postoperative period after bioprosthetic valve implantation in patients with atrial fibrillation. Our objective was to describe the efficacy and safety of DOACs and warfarin in the first 3 months after surgical bioprosthetic valve replacement or repair in patients with atrial fibrillation.

Methods: This was a retrospective, registry-informed cohort study of surgical patients who underwent bioprosthetic valve replacement or repair, had concomitant atrial fibrillation and received oral anticoagulation at discharge.

For patients with mechanical heart valves, oral vitamin K antagonists effectively reduce the risk of valve thrombosis. Bridging strategies that use intravenous unfractionated heparin or subcutaneous low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) are required when reversal of anticoagulation is needed for invasive procedures or bleeding complications. There is limited data comparing anticoagulation efficacy between subtypes of LMWH and dosing regimens in this context.

Soft tissue coverage for avascular wounds is necessary in reconstructive surgery. Several authors have demonstrated successful treatment of problem wounds using artificial dermis. This study evaluates in an animal model the potential for neovascularization of artificial dermis in devascularized and avascular wound beds.

Beginning in 1990, the University of Arizona, Arizona Remote Sensing Center (ARSC) has been involved in a collaborative effort with the Global Information and Early Warning System (GIEWS) and the Remote Sensing Center of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in designing and developing an integrated computer workstation for famine early warning. The goal of the project is to provide food security analysts with a set of computer tools to manage a very large and diverse set of data for predicting the onset of food security emergencies for every country on Earth. The initial stage of the project involved the conceptual definition of system elements and the development of overall system architecture.
