Article Synopsis
  • Implementing Advance Care Planning (ACP) for patients with End-Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) during hemodialysis faces challenges and shows inconsistencies across Europe despite legal support.
  • A multidisciplinary model was established in 2019, involving a team of specialists—including a nephrologist, psychologist, palliative care expert, and anesthesiologist/intensivist—to address the complex needs of patients.
  • The authors highlight the strengths of this collaborative model and propose guidelines to improve ACP practices within the nephrology field in Europe.

Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate the safety, feasibility, and early efficacy of saphenous vein ablation using a water-specific 1940-nm diode laser wavelength using low linear endovenous energy density.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a series of patients who had undergone endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) between July 2020 and October 2021 from the multicenter, prospectively maintained VEINOVA (vein occlusion with various techniques) registry. EVLA was performed using a water-specific 1940-nm radial laser fiber.
