The large pine weevil ( L.) is a major pest in European and Asian coniferous forests, particularly in managed plantations where clear-felling practices create ideal conditions for its population growth. Traditional management practices involving synthetic insecticides have limited efficacy in terms of reducing pest populations and pose environmental risks.

Tissue acidification resulting from dysregulated cellular bioenergetics accompanies various inflammatory states. GPR68, along with other members of proton-sensing G protein-coupled receptors, responds to extracellular acidification and has been implicated in chronic inflammation-related diseases such as ischemia, cancer, and colitis. The present study examined the role of extracellular acidification on human pulmonary endothelial cell (EC) permeability and inflammatory status per se and investigated potential synergistic effects of acidosis on endothelial dysfunction caused by bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS, ).

Virtual Care Appointments and Experience Among Older Rural Patients with Chronic Conditions in New South Wales: An Analysis of Existing Survey Data.

This retrospective, descriptive study, conducted in 2024, analysed Virtual Care Survey (2020-2022) data of patients' self-reported reflections on use and experiences to investigate relationships between demographics, the number of chronic conditions, and virtual care use among older rural patients (≥65 years with at least one chronic condition) living in New South Wales, and their satisfaction with virtual care. Associations between categorical variables were assessed using chi-squared tests, and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for continuous variables. Qualitative feedback was analysed thematically.

Epidemiology of Infections in the Households of Cholera Patients in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: PICHA7 Prospective Cohort Study.

Background: The aim of this prospective cohort study is to build evidence on transmission dynamics and risk factors for infections in cholera patient households.

Methods: Household contacts of cholera patients were observed for 1-month after the index cholera patient was admitted to a health facility for stool, serum, and water collection in urban Bukavu in South Kivu, Democratic Republic of the Congo. A infection was defined as a bacterial culture positive result during the 1-month surveillance period and/or a four-fold rise in a O1 serological antibody from baseline to the 1-month follow-up.

Revising the definition of "demand satisfied for modern methods of family planning:" A cross-sectional study to explore incorporating person-centered constructs of demand, choice, and satisfaction.

Several challenges to validity have been identified with standard approaches used to measure "demand satisfied for modern methods of family planning." This study explored construct validity of the widely used indicator for "demand satisfied" by comparing the standard definition to alternative definitions of the indicator highlighting dimensions of women's own perceived demand, choice, and satisfaction. This cross-sectional study of women aged 15-49 years was conducted in Argentina (n = 1492), Ghana (n = 1600), and India (n = 1702) using a two-staged random sampling design.
