An overcrowded ethylene composed of electron-donating anion, naphthoxide, and electron-accepting cation, acridinium, has been synthesized. It is in equilibrium between a folded conformer having a smaller permanent dipole moment with visible light absorption and a twisted conformer having a larger permanent dipole moment with NIR light absorption. The overcrowded ethylene shows multiple NIR chromisms, such as solvatochromism, thermochromism, mechanochromism, vapochromism, halochromism, and amphoteric electrochromisms, which are caused by the conformational change between folded and twisted conformers or by controlling the energy difference between the HOMO of the donor moiety and the LUMO of the acceptor moiety.

Background: The emergence of the Omicron variant of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus-2 has significantly altered the clinical features and severity of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Objective: This study aims to evaluate whether the clinical factors that previously predicted COVID-19 remain valid following the emergence of the Omicron variant.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Showa University Fujigaoka Hospital from April 2022 to March 2023.

SPring-8-II is a major upgrade project of SPring-8 that was inaugurated in October 1997 as a third-generation synchrotron radiation light source. This upgrade project aims to achieve three goals simultaneously: achievement of excellent light source performance, refurbishment of aged systems, and significant reduction in power consumption for the entire facility. A small emittance of 50 pm rad will be achieved by (1) replacing the existing double-bend lattice structure with a five-bend achromat one, (2) lowering the stored beam energy from 8 to 6 GeV, (3) increasing the horizontal damping partition number from 1 to 1.

This study elucidates the effectiveness of a menstrual education program with segmented MHM procedure on the MHM skills of girls with intellectual disabilities/HSN compared with those with typical development. Participants in a nonrandomized comparative study included nine adolescent girls with intellectual disabilities/HSN and ten with typical development. They practiced MHM on dolls three times: before, immediately after, and three months after participating in the educational program.

Article Synopsis
  • FOLFOXIRI plus bevacizumab is a first-line chemotherapy for metastatic colorectal cancer, but is rarely used due to severe side effects, with limited real-world efficacy and safety data available.
  • A study analyzed clinical data from 104 patients, finding that 63% required dose reductions and that treatment discontinuation was primarily due to toxicities, with 45% completing the planned therapy cycles.
  • Results showed promising outcomes with a median progression-free survival of 12.8 months and overall survival of 27.9 months, along with a high disease control rate of 98.9%, and no treatment-related deaths reported.
