A 64 year-old Caucasian man was first investigated 21 years ago for persistent diarrhoea. A colonoscopy revealed an erosive pancolitis with unusual vacuolated macrophages. Characteristics of ulcerative colitis or Crohn's disease were absent.

Mini review of mercury contamination in environment and human with an emphasis on Malaysia: status and needs.

This article provides an overview of research on mercury (Hg) contamination in Malaysia and its evolution from 1979 to 2012. The objective of this paper was to review and provide an understanding of Hg exposures in the environment, humans, and food in Malaysia. Hg concentration in the environment is high in areas of West Port, Malacca Straits, Prai, and Johor because these areas receive anthropogenic metal loads brought about by industrial activities.

Bologna in Medicine Anno 2012: experiences of European medical schools that implemented a Bologna two-cycle curriculum--an AMEE-MEDINE2 survey.

Background: The 1999 Bologna Agreement implies a European harmonization of higher education using three cycles: bachelor and master before doctorate. Undergraduate medical programmes were restructured in only seven of the 47 countries.

Aim: Given the debate about a two-cycle system in undergraduate medical education, providing an overview of experiences in medical schools that applied this structure was the purpose of this investigation.

Harden & Crosby claimed that a good teacher is more than a lecturer, and identified 12 roles that certify a good and capable teacher. However, this is only half the truth: the good student is more than a listener.

External or internal lateral osteotomy: why I choose the external percutaneous approach.

The authors present their surgical experience with the management of patients with dorsum deformities using a precise technique: the external percutaneous approach. The indications for this technique have still not been set out very clearly in the rhinological textbooks or manuals, and so novices (and not only novices) have difficulty in understanding and applying it. We therefore try to systematise and clarify these indications in brief, together with the technical details, providing a comparison with another technique that is in very widespread use at present: the internal lateral osteotomy.
