Effects of Telmisartan on Intraocular Pressure, Blood Pressure, and Ocular Perfusion Pressure in Normal and Glaucomatous Cats.

Purpose: To determine the effect of telmisartan on intraocular pressure (IOP), blood pressure (BP), and ocular perfusion pressure (OPP) in normal and glaucomatous cats.

Methods: A four-week study was conducted in six normal adult cats, followed by a longer six-month study performed in 37 cats with spontaneous glaucoma and 11 age-matched normal cats. Telmisartan (1 mg/kg/day) or placebo-vehicle were administered orally once daily.

Social scientists have long understood race to be a social category invented to justify slavery and evolutionary biologists know the socially constructed racial categories do not align with our biological understanding of genetic variation. The completion of the Human Genome Project in 2003 confirmed humans are 99.9% identical at the DNA level and there is no genetic basis for race.

Identification of a novel penicillin-binding protein from Helicobacter pylori.

The Helicobacter pylori genome encodes four penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs). PBPs 1, 2, and 3 exhibit similarities to known PBPs. The sequence of PBP 4 is unique in that it displays a novel combination of two highly conserved PBP motifs and an absence of a third motif.

Lesions of the thalamic intergeniculate leaflet block activity-induced phase shifts in the circadian activity rhythm of the golden hamster.

A variety of stimuli, which are associated with acute increases in locomotor activity, induce similar phase-dependent shifts in the circadian rhythm of locomotor activity in golden hamsters. Treatment with the benzodiazepine, triazolam (Tz), or transfer of an animal normally housed without a running wheel to a new cage with 1 h of access to a wheel are both examples of such stimuli. Phase shifts normally induced by injections of Tz can be blocked by lesions of the intergeniculate leaflet (IGL) of the thalamus.
