Case: A 4-year-old boy sustained an accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound to the left forearm. Radiographs revealed a comminuted mid-diaphyseal ballistic radius fracture with a critical-sized bone defect. The fracture was treated with the placement of a flexible intramedullary nail and antibiotic cement spacer, followed by second-stage bone grafting and open reduction and internal fixation of the radius 6 weeks later.

We present the case of a 26-year-old male who was found to have human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) in his cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) during acute presentation of multiple sclerosis (MS). Paresthesia of the lower extremities was his only symptom during the initial presentation, and workup for MS was not included during this evaluation. A single dose of IV steroids failed to improve his condition, and symptoms became more severe.

Antibody engineering techniques permit the exploitation of the highly specific and diverse nature of the humoral immune system. Intracellular antibodies, consisting minimally of the antigen-binding domains of the parent immunoglobulin protein, may be used to manipulate microbial and cellular target molecules. Applications of this technology described to date include inhibition of replication of an infectious virus, downregulation of growth factor receptors, and inactivation of oncoproteins in cell culture systems.

Unlabelled: Fertilization of land with processed sewage sludges, which often contain low levels of pathogens, endotoxins, and trace amounts of industrial and household chemicals, has become common practice in Western Europe, the United States, and Canada. Local governments, however, are increasingly restricting or banning the practice in response to residents reporting adverse health effects. These self-reported illnesses have not been studied and methods for assessing exposures of residential communities to contaminants from processed sewage sludges need to be developed.
