Background: Diagnosing laryngopharyngeal reflux (LPR) is challenging due to overlapping symptoms. While proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) are commonly prescribed, reliable predictors of their responsiveness are unclear. Reflux monitoring technologies like dual potential of hydrogen (pH) sensors and multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH (MII-pH) could improve diagnosis.

Enhancing stability of fermented egg white gels: Influence of guar and xanthan gum addition order during yogurt-like fermentation.

Egg white gels prepared through fermentation, similar to yogurt production, offer a high-protein, zero-fat alternative to traditional dairy products. This study investigated the impact of guar gum (GG) and xanthan gum (XG) as rheological modifiers on the stability of fermented egg white gels. Rheological analysis revealed that the addition of both gums significantly influenced gel properties, with XG demonstrating superior performance.

Effect of the initial glucose concentration on the performance of ice wine fermentation of Vidal grape juice.

Ice wine is produced from concentrated grape juice obtained by the natural freezing and pressing of grapes. The high sugar content of this juice has an impact on fermentation. To investigate the impact of the initial sugar concentration on the fermentation of ice wine, the initial sugar concentration of Vidal ice grape juice was adjusted to 370, 450, 500 and 550 g/L by the addition of glucose.

Morphology control and enhanced activity of (Cu-S)MOF@ZnS heterostructures for photocatalytic H production.

A novel metal-organic framework (MOF), (Cu-S)MOF, with a copper-sulfur planar structure was applied to photocatalytic H production application. (Cu-S)MOF@ZnS nanocomposite was synthesized using a microwave-assisted hydrothermal approach. The formation of (Cu-S)MOF and wurtzite ZnS in the composite nanoparticles was analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM).

Assessing the impact of clerkships on the growth of clinical knowledge.

Purpose: This study quantified the impact of clinical clerkships on medical students' disciplinary knowledge using the Comprehensive Clinical Science Examination (CCSE) as a formative assessment tool.

Methods: This study involved 155 third-year medical students in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University who matriculated in 2016. Disciplinary scores on their individual Comprehensive Clinical Science Examination reports were extracted by digitizing the bar charts using image processing techniques.
