Yttrium vanadate (YVO) is a non-toxic ceramic matrix that, when doped with lanthanides, can be used as a photoluminescent biosensor. In this study, we meticulously synthesized upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) of YVO via chemical coprecipitation, using Er and Yb ions for codoping. The light emission achieved through upconversion mechanisms enables the excitation of nanoparticles with infrared light rather than ultraviolet light, enhancing the potential of current bioimaging techniques.

Nanocomposites were analyzed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), Rietveld refinements, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Raman spectroscopy, photoluminescence (PL), vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM). Nanocomposites exhibit superparamagnetic behavior that improves with Eu3+, resulting in increased magnetic saturation.

Background: Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have attracted considerable attention due to the variety of their applications in medicine and other sciences. AgNPs have been used in vitro for treatment of various diseases, such as hepatitis B and herpes simplex infections as well as colon, cervical, and lung cancers.
