: Considering the increasing prevalence of chronic heart failure (CHF) and cognitive decline (CD) observed in recent decades and the complex interrelation between these two pathologies often encountered in the same patient, in this study, we aimed to highlight the connection between CHF, defined as recommended by the European Society of Cardiology guidelines, and CD, evaluated by employing five neuropsychological scales. : Our study was conducted on 190 patients with very high cardiovascular risk profiles admitted between 5 September 2021 and 15 November 2023 in the Municipal Emergency Hospital Timisoara. Of these, 103 had CHF (group A) and 87 did not (group B).

This retrospective study investigated the prognostic value of N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in 106 patients with pulmonary embolism (PE) and associated oncological pathology. The study aimed to evaluate the predictive accuracy of NT-proBNP for both the prognosis and complication risk, such as early mortality (≤ 30 days), late mortality (≥ 30 days), and PE recurrence, in relation to the neoplasm's location and stage. Additionally, it explored the relationship between NT-proBNP, hemodynamic status (stable/unstable), and the location of PE in the pulmonary arteries (main, lobar, segmental) for prognostic and complication risk assessment.

The paper describes a cohort of patients with post-acute COVID-19 syndrome, evaluated for the first time between week 3 and week 12 from the onset of symptoms following the acute COVID-19 infection. The patient's baseline clinical features were used as predictors. The analysis showed that older patients with comorbidities are at higher risk of developing more long-lasting post COVID-19 symptoms.

Restoring electrical synchrony with cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) reverses the heart failure phenotype developed by left-ventricular (LV) dyssynchrony. This study aimed to identify new predictors of response to LV-only fusion pacing CRT. A select group of patients with CRT-P indications received a right atrium (RA)/LV DDD pacing system.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the psychosocial effects of scars from total hip arthroplasties (THA), focusing on how factors like the cause of joint damage and the type of surgery affect patients' emotional and psychological adaptation.
  • - Conducted over nearly two years at a Romanian hospital, the research categorized participants into non-traumatic (degenerative hip osteoarthritis) and traumatic groups to compare their experiences and outcomes.
  • - Findings reveal that the type of THA performed significantly influences how patients internalize their scars, particularly noting that traumatic cases with uncemented THA reported higher internalization scores, affecting perceptions of social support and quality of life.
