These daily or near-daily headaches result from the chronic overuse of all immediate relief antimigraine drugs: ergotamine, analgesics, and/or more recently triptans. Like for much chronic daily headaches, the International Headache Society diagnostic criteria for drug abuse headaches are difficult to apply. Generally, patients confuse primary headaches (usually migraines) with interparoxysmal tension-type headaches called "rebound headaches".
