Sepsis and septic shock are leading causes of morbidity and mortality in both humans and dogs, and early diagnosis is crucial for improving outcomes. This study aimed to evaluate bioactive adrenomedullin (bio-ADM) concentrations in dogs with septic shock (n = 25), dogs with sepsis without evidence of shock (n = 25), and healthy control dogs (n = 25). Plasma bio-ADM concentrations were measured using a human sandwich enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and reported as median (interquartile range).

Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of an extended-role general practitioner symptoms clinic (SC), added to usual care (UC) for patients with multiple persistent physical symptoms (sometimes known as medically unexplained symptoms).

Methods: This was a 52-week within-trial cost-utility analysis of a pragmatic multicenter randomized controlled trial comparing SC + UC (n = 178) with UC alone (n = 176), conducted from the primary perspective of the UK National Health Service and personal and social services (PSS). Base-case quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) were measured using EQ-5D-5L.

Objective: Animal models of drug-resistant epilepsy represent an important resource for discovering new drug targets and testing experimental medicines. Intra-amygdala microinjection of kainic acid in mice is one of the most widely regarded models of drug-resistant epilepsy. Mice develop acute status epilepticus, which diminishes after a few hours and then, within a few days, mice display spontaneous seizures (epilepsy).
