Although oral contraceptives provide the primary therapy for endometriosis, surgery is sometimes indicated. Surgical treatment should be conservative, with salvage of as much tissue as possible. Ovarian and presacral neurectomy, in addition to dissection and desiccation, should be done in most cases.
