Background: Mannose-binding lectin (MBL) plays an important role in the innate immune response. In addition to activating the complement, MBL can induce cytokine production and contribute to a deleterious inflammatory response with severe A(H1N1)pdm09 virus infection. Our aim was to determine if serum MBL levels correlate with the risk of mortality in intensive care units (ICU) patients with A(H1N1)pdm09 infection.

This study compared the performance of 3 automated immunoassays, Architect (Abbott), Immulite (Siemens) and Liaison (Diasorin), for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) serology. Ninety-one serum samples collected in Amiens University Hospital were analyzed for the presence of Viral Capsid Antigen (VCA) IgG and IgM and Epstein-Barr Nuclear Antigen (EBNA) IgG. The agreement between the 3 assays was calculated for each marker individually and for determination of the EBV profile, based on interpretation of the combination of these 3 EBV markers.

Maribavir (MBV), a UL97 inhibitor, shows good oral bioavailability, low host cell toxicity, and theoretical benefits to inhibit cross-resistant viruses. We herein examined clinical and virological outcomes of 12 patients, including 3 bone marrow recipients and 9 organ recipients infected with resistant cytomegalovirus (CMV) and treated with MBV during 2011-2012. All received at least 800-mg daily doses.

A simple and complete multiresidue method has been developed for the routine determination of 236 pesticides and degradation products, in meat based baby-food. This original approach combines a modified Quick Easy Cheap Effective Rugged and Safe (QuEChERS) sample preparation method using a triple partitioning extraction step with water/ACN/hexane and a system composed of GC with programmable temperature vaporization injector hyphenated to an IT-MS. Detection was performed in full scan mode, with one quantification ion and one identification ion.
