Decision-making in borderline hip dysplasia and concomitant femoracetabular impingement syndrome: using a discrete choice experiment to explore patient preferences.

Decision-making regarding surgical treatment of patients showing radiographic evidence of femoroacetabular impingement syndrome (FAIS) in the setting of borderline hip dysplasia (BHD) remains a challenge as there is no consensus on treatment in current literature. When medical evidence is unclear, understanding patient preferences becomes particularly important in deciding the optimal treatment for each patient. The purpose of this study was to measure the patient-determined importance of factors surrounding surgical treatment of FAIS in BHD.

Research as an Early-Career Sports Surgeon: Keys to Success.

Research as an early-career surgeon is challenging. The resources that you had as a trainee are not established yet and it can be difficult to balance while learning to be an effective clinician and surgeon. Starting early, however, before clinical and leadership responsibilities build up is a key to developing a successful research program.

Central nervous system manifestations in acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease.

Despite the growing evidence supporting the existence of CNS involvement in acute and chronic graft-versus-host disease (CNS-GvHD), the characteristics and course of the disease are still largely unknown. In this multicenter retrospective study, we analyzed the clinical, biological, radiological, and histopathological characteristics, as well as the clinical course of 66 patients diagnosed with possible CNS-GvHD (pCNS-GvHD), selected by predetermined diagnostic criteria. Results were then contrasted depending on whether pCNS-GvHD occurred before or after day 100 following allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation.

Imaging mimickers of MSK infection.

Along with clinical and laboratory findings, imaging has a significant role in the initial evaluation and treatment follow-up of a wide variety of infectious and non-infectious musculoskeletal (MSK) conditions. The imaging findings of many non-infectious MSK processes, such as inflammatory, metabolic, and degenerative arthropathies, complications of diabetes mellitus, osseous and soft tissue injuries, osteonecrosis, tumors, and tumor-like lesions may be nonspecific and often overlap with those found in MSK infections. In this article, the authors discuss the imaging findings of both frequent and rare mimickers of MSK infections, including potential distinguishing characteristics.

Update on elbow arthroplasties with emphasis on imaging.

Elbow arthroplasty is increasing in popularity and can be used to treat many conditions, such as trauma, primary and secondary osteoarthritis, inflammatory arthritis, and osteonecrosis. Total elbow arthroplasty (TEA) is reserved for patients with severe symptoms refractory to more conservative management. In addition to TEA, hemi-arthroplasty, interposition arthroplasty, and resection arthroplasty also play roles in the management of elbow pain.
