Alphaviruses, a genus of vector-borne viruses in the family, encode a small ion-channel-forming protein, 6K, and its transframe variant (TF) during infections. Although 6K/TF have vital roles in glycoprotein transport, virus assembly, and budding, there is no mechanistic explanation for these functions. We investigated the distinct biochemical functionalities of 6K and TF from the mosquito-borne alphavirus, Chikungunya Virus.

Background & objectives Our study aims to provide the diversity of stem cell use for non-malignant, non-haematological diseases in India through the lens of clinical trials. Methods A PRISMA approach was used to evaluate the safety and efficacy of stem cell use for the period 2001-2021 in India. The outcomes were measured using each disease category, types of stem cells, the origin of stem cells, safety, and efficacy.

Background Haglund's syndrome, a common cause of pain in the posterior heel that consists of painful swelling of the local soft tissues and prominence of the posterosuperior calcaneal projection, presents significant challenges in treatment, particularly when conservative management fails. This study evaluates the functional outcomes following oblique partial excision of the posterosuperior portion (calcaneal tuberosity osteotomy) of the calcaneus for Haglund's syndrome. Methods A cohort of 30 patients, aged 18 years and older, with persistent heel pain unresponsive to conservative treatments, underwent partial osteotomy using a medial or lateral approach.

Introduction: The cut-off for referral to a higher center and further investigations for the delayed passage of first urine and meconium by a neonate have been traditionally kept after 48 hours of birth. There are very few studies regarding this in Indian neonates, and previous studies have relied primarily on the mother's recall of the event which may have led to recall bias. Therefore, through this study, we wanted to use hospital intake/output records to identify the risk factors that affect the timing of passage of first urine and stool in neonates delivered at our center and to find out if the cut-off of 48 hours to call it a delay is justifiable.

Article Synopsis
  • The study introduces a quick and eco-friendly method to create manganese oxide (MnO) nanoparticles using Ashwagandha extract, with noticeable color change signaling synthesis.
  • Various analytical techniques confirmed the formation and properties of the nanoparticles, which demonstrated high photocatalytic efficiency in breaking down pollutants when exposed to sunlight.
  • The process is simple, does not require harmful chemicals, and has potential applications in wastewater treatment, promoting the development of sustainable nanomaterials.
