The "Great Lockdown": Inactive workers and mortality by Covid-19.

In response to the Covid-19 outbreak, the Italian Government imposed an economic lockdown on March 22, 2020, and ordered the closing of all non-essential economic activities. This paper estimates the causal effects of this measure on mortality by Covid-19 and on mobility patterns. The identification of the causal effects exploits the variation in the active population across municipalities induced by the economic lockdown.

Background: Pain in cancer patients is often related to oncologic therapies and diagnostic procedures. The placement of fully implantable venous access systems is a very common procedure in oncology patients. Local anaesthesia is the method most commonly used to overcome pain related to this surgical procedure, but the local anaesthetic may be unable to completely eradicate all pain.

Purpose: To determine the immunogenicity and antitumor activity of a vaccine consisting of autologous, tumor-derived heat shock protein gp96-peptide complexes (HSPPC-96, Oncophage; Antigenics, Inc, Woburn, MA) in metastatic (American Joint Committee on Cancer stage IV) melanoma patients.

Patients And Methods: Sixty-four patients had surgical resection of metastatic tissue required for vaccine production, 42 patients were able to receive the vaccine, and 39 were assessable after one cycle of vaccination (four weekly injections). In 21 patients, a second cycle (four biweekly injections) was given because no progression occurred.

Supportive therapy of elderly cancer patients.

Elderly cancer patients often require supportive care due to the physiologic decline of organs and apparatus linked with the aging process per se, and for the effects of tumor or of anticancer treatments. Pain and nutritional deficits are some clinical aspects requiring supportive care. Lack of studies on these latter topics does not allow an in depth analysis of the problem.
