We present a case of acute urinary retention (AUR) with hyper-angulation of the urinary bladder neck secondary to uterine leiomyoma. Our patient is a 45-year-old female who presented with AUR and suprapubic pain requiring catheterization. CT images highlight the level of obstruction secondary to suspension of the urinary bladder rather than direct urethral compression.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFBackground: This study was conducted to assess whether statin intake is associated with clinical parameters of periodontitis and matrix metalloproteinase (MMP) levels in gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) of non-diabetic and diabetic patients.
Methods: We first determined the effect of simvastatin on MMP expression in mononuclear cells. We then recruited 117 non-diabetic and diabetic patients, who all had periodontitis and took or did not take statin, and measured periodontal probing depth (PPD) and clinical attachment level (CAL), and collected gingival crevicular fluid (GCF) to quantify MMPs.
Objective: This study examined the engagement level of direct care nurses 45 years or older with at least 10 years' experience to create a baseline for action to increase engagement among these seasoned nurses.
Background: Assessing an organization's level of nursing engagement and designing strategies to improve engagement are crucial to support decreased turnover and increased levels of quality outcomes.
Methods: The Health Care Advisory Board's Nurse Engagement Survey was distributed via SurveyMonkey to direct care nurses meeting the study criteria.
De novo sequencing by mass spectrometry (MS) allows for the determination of the complete amino acid (AA) sequence of a given protein based on the mass difference of detected ions from MS/MS fragmentation spectra. The technique relies on obtaining specific masses that can be attributed to characteristic theoretical masses of AAs. A major limitation of de novo sequencing by MS is the inability to distinguish between the isobaric residues leucine (Leu) and isoleucine (Ile).

The region has emerged as the primary area of Ca(2+) traffic between the two organelles, and as such, has been implicated in the regulation of protein folding, oxidative phosphorylation, and Ca(2+)-mediated apoptosis. In order to better understand biological processes and molecular functions at the MAM, we report a global mass spectrometry-based proteomic evaluation of the MAM obtained from mouse brain samples.
