Alpha-synuclein pathology enhances peripheral and CNS immune responses to bacterial endotoxins.

Increasing evidence points to infectious diseases as contributor to the pathogenesis of neurodegeneration in Parkinson's disease (PD), probably driven by a peripheral and CNS inflammatory response together with alpha-synuclein (aSyn) pathology. Pro-inflammatory lipopolysaccharide (LPS) endotoxin is suggested as a risk factor, and LPS shedding gram-negative bacteria are more prevalent in the gut-microbiome of PD patients. Here, we investigated whether LPS could contribute to the neurodegenerative disease progression via neuroinflammation, especially under conditions of aSyn pathology.

Status of surface electromyography assessment as part of clinical gait analysis in the management of patients with cerebral palsy - Outcomes of a Delphi process.

Background: The assessment of gait disorders in patients with neuromotor conditions, such as cerebral palsy (CP), has been a focus of clinical and research attention, with electromyography (EMG) offering a nuanced understanding of neurological and neuromuscular disorders. However, the interpretation of EMG data in the context of gait analysis remains challenging due to the complexity of neuromotor dynamics and variability in assessment methodologies.

Research Question: To which consensus can we get in a group of experts in the fields of neurological and neuromuscular disorders, biomechanics, and clinical gait analysis to establish standardized protocols and a common language for the measurement and analysis of EMG data in gait disorders, particularly in people living with CP?

Methods: A three-round Delphi process was conducted from February to September 2023 to gather opinions of 53 experts on the use of surface EMG data during gait in the context of CP.

Does sleep help children to generalise features like adults?

Children and adults have been shown to benefit from sleep with regard to the consolidation of declarative memories. Especially during childhood, the generalisation of information from social and non-social contexts is important for adaptable behaviour in new situations and might show specific features in children. Here, we investigated whether adults (n = 18) and children (n = 19) differ in their generalisation of features assessed in wake and sleep conditions.

Analysis of a Pilot Study Delivering Cancer Survivorship Education to Community Healthcare Professionals Utilizing the Project ECHO Model.

As the number and needs of cancer survivors grow, innovative ways to enhance survivorship expertise are needed. This pilot study evaluated a 12-week cancer survivorship curriculum delivered to two cohorts of providers at affiliated sites within the Mercy Health System, utilising the Project ECHO® model, on provider self-efficacy (SE), knowledge (KN), and professional improvement (PI). Providers received six 1-hour sessions, informed by provider needs assessment, over 12 weeks.

Microbial Contamination and Antibiotic Resistance in Fresh Produce and Agro-Ecosystems in South Asia-A Systematic Review.

Fresh produce prone to microbial contamination is a potential reservoir for antimicrobial-resistant bacteria (ARB) and antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs), posing challenges to food safety and public health. This systematic review aims to comprehensively assess the prevalence of bacterial pathogens and the incidence of ARB/ARGs in fresh produce and agro-ecosystems across South Asia. Twenty-two relevant studies published between 2012 and 2022 from three major scientific databases and the grey literature were identified.
