A Non Platinum Regimen for the Treatment of Recurrent or Metastatic Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck Region. Results From an Extended Phase II Study With Paclitaxel and Capecitabine.

Background: This study presents the results of an extended phase II study originally published in 2007, regarding the antitumor activity and toxicity of a non-platinum containing regimen with paclitaxel and capecitabine for the treatment of recurrent or disseminated squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck region. Fifty patients were included in the original study.

Materials And Methods: A total of 183 patients with recurrent or disseminated squamous cell carcinoma were eventually included in the extended study.

Clinical Positioning Space: Residents' Clinical Experiences in the Outpatient Oncology Clinic.

In this article, we present a case study of residents' clinical experiences and communication in outpatient oncology consultations. We apply positioning theory, a dynamic alternative to role theory, to investigate how oncology residents and patients situate themselves as persons with rights and duties. Drawing from seven qualitative interviews and six days of observation, we investigate the residents' social positioning and their conversations with patients or supervisors.

Large discrepancy in the results of sensitive measurements of thyroglobulin antibodies in the follow-up on thyroid cancer: a diagnostic dilemma.

Unlabelled: During follow-up on patients treated for differentiated thyroid cancer, thyroglobulin (Tg) antibodies can interfere with the Tg assay, making the use of Tg less reliable as a tumor marker.

Purpose: To compare Tg and Tg autoantibodies (Tg-Ab) methods used in Denmark, regarding the number of patient samples being accepted for evaluating the result of a serum thyroglobulin (s-Tg) measurement.

Design: 95 consecutive blood samples drawn from patients in 2006 in one center were selected according to the following criteria: s-Tg <1μg/l and accepted BRAHMS Tg+ recovery test using 50 ng of Tg.

Phase II study of a 3-day schedule with topotecan and cisplatin in patients with previously untreated small cell lung cancer and extensive disease.

Introduction: Treatment with a topoisomerase I inhibitor in combination with a platinum results in superior or equal survival compared with etoposide-based treatment in extensive disease small cell lung cancer (SCLC). Five-day topotecan is inconvenient and therefore shorter schedules of topotecan and cisplatin are needed. The aim of this phase II study was to establish the response rate and response duration in chemo-naive patients with SCLC receiving a 3-day topotecan and cisplatin schedule.
