Importance: Adequate situational awareness in patient care increases patient safety and quality of care. To improve situational awareness, an innovative, low-fidelity simulation method referred to as Room of Improvement, has proven effective in various clinical settings.

Objective: To investigate the impact after 3 months of Room of Improvement training on the ability to detect patient safety hazards during an intensive care unit shift handover, based on critical incident reporting system (CIRS) cases reported in the same hospital.

Platelets bridging the gap between gut dysbiosis and neuroinflammation in stress-linked disorders: A narrative review.

In this narrative review, we examine the association between gut dysbiosis, neuroinflammation, and stress-linked disorders, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and investigate whether tryptophan (TRP) metabolism and platelets play a role in this association. The mechanisms underlying the aetiology of stress-linked disorders are complex and not yet completely understood. However, a potential link between chronic inflammation and these disorders may potentially be found in TRP metabolism and platelets.

Identifying genetic loci that are associated with changes in gene expression in PTSD in a South African cohort.

The molecular mechanisms underlying posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) are yet to be fully elucidated, especially in underrepresented population groups. Expression quantitative trait loci (eQTLs) are DNA sequence variants that influence gene expression, in a local (cis-) or distal (trans-) manner, and subsequently impact cellular, tissue, and system physiology. This study aims to identify genetic loci associated with gene expression changes in a South African PTSD cohort.

Physician Practice Characteristics Influencing Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant Care in Nursing Homes: A Scoping Review.

Objectives: Physicians, nurse practitioners (NPs), and physician assistants (PAs) are key to the effective delivery of medical care in nursing homes (NHs). Although several studies have reported on the relationship between the care delivered by a given discipline and specific clinical outcomes, the mediating effect of physician practice characteristics is unknown. A scoping review was conducted to determine whether studies examining the impact of NP and PA care in NHs have accounted for both the collaborative relationship between themselves and physicians as well as physician practice size and type.
