Melanopsin also impacts cognition and synaptogenesis. This study investigated the associations between melanopsin genetic variants, sleep, and markers of brain health.

Background: Artificial intelligence (AI) is a rapidly growing and evolving field impacting pharmacy research, education, and professional practice. The development and adaptation of AI technologies have the potential to radically shape the future of the pharmacy profession. However, it remains unclear how aware pharmacists are of these technologies or their perceptions regarding current and future utilization.

Dietary Pattern, Sputum DNA Methylation, and Lung Health: An Epidemiological Study in People Who Ever Smoked.

Background: We previously identified a panel of sputum DNA methylation that predicts lung aging and risk for lung cancer.

Research Question: Can the sputum methylation panel be used as a readout to derive a dietary pattern beneficial for lung health? Is this dietary pattern associated with various subjective and objective lung health phenotypes? Does this relationship vary among people who currently smoke (current smokers) vs previously smoked (former smokers)?

Study Design And Methods: Using the Lovelace Smoker Cohort (LSC), we employed the LASSO (least absolute shrinkage and selection operator) regularized Poisson regression to define a dietary pattern for sputum. Associations of the dietary pattern with objective and subjective lung health measurements were examined using generalized linear and Cox models in the LSC and the Prostate, Lung, Colorectal, and Ovarian (PLCO) Cancer Screening trial.

The interplay of age, gender and amyloid on brain and cognition in mid-life and older adults.

Deficits in memory are seen as a canonical sign of aging and a prodrome to dementia in older adults. However, our understanding of age-related cognition and brain morphology occurring throughout a broader spectrum of adulthood remains limited. We quantified the relationship between cognitive function and brain morphology (sulcal width, SW) using three cross-sectional observational datasets (PISA, AIBL, ADNI) from mid-life to older adulthood, assessing the influence of age, sex, amyloid (Aβ) and genetic risk for dementia.

A novel method in myocardial injury risk stratification using intravenous fat emulsion as sole rapid preparation for unfasted patients to suppress myocardial 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake for optimal cardiac PET imaging: a proof-of-concept randomized-crossover trial.

Objectives: Optimal imaging of ischemic or inflammed myocardium via F-FDG PET imaging requires suppression of background carbohydrate metabolism in normal myocardium. Sole administration of intravenous lipid emulsion has not previously been used to rapidly prepare unfasted patients, such as in emergent clinical situations. In this proof-of-concept pilot, we posited that intravenous fat emulsion suppresses physiological metabolic uptake of in non-ischemic, non-inflammatory myocardium in unprepared and unfasted setting for enhanced cardiac positron emission tomography (PET) imaging.
