Although guidelines are established for performing the six-minute walking test (6MWT), it is not always possible to implement this test in any setting, due to physical and space limitations. Yet, variations in the conditions of the test could be responsible for heterogeneous outcomes. However, the impact of the condition of the 6MWT is not clearly established in literature.

Cities concentrate problems that affect human well-being and biodiversity. Exploring the link between mental health and biodiversity can inform more holistic public health and urban planning. Here we examined associations between bird and tree species diversity estimates from eBird community science datasets and national forest inventories with self-rated mental health metrics from the Canadian Community Health Survey.

Children with disabilities in the United States and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Children with disabilities are disproportionately impacted by COVID-19 and the containment response. Their caregivers must now adapt to increased stressors such as lack of access to needed therapies, medical supplies, and nursing care. Prior to COVID-19 these families were already marginalized, and this has only worsened during the pandemic.

When an invasive wetland grass degrades a Ramsar wetland and Important Bird Area, decisive management action is called for. To limit the extent and spread of European Phragmites australis, the Ontario government began the first, large-scale application of glyphosate (Roundup Custom) over standing water to control an invasive species in Canadian history. Between 2016 and 2018, over 1000 ha of marsh were treated.

Periphyton bioconcentrates pesticides downstream of catchment dominated by agricultural land use.

Periphyton provides important ecosystem services in aquatic environments, including supporting diverse consumers. We studied pesticide bioconcentration in periphyton in a coastal marsh on Lake Erie. The marsh is within a protected area (Rondeau Provincial Park) but receives discharge from tributaries draining intensively farmed land.
