Microbial processes are critical to the function of freshwater ecosystems, yet we still do not fully understand the factors that shape freshwater microbial communities. Furthermore, freshwater ecosystems are particularly susceptible to effects of environmental change, including influx of exogenous nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. To evaluate the impact of nitrogen loading on the microbial community structure of shallow freshwater lakes, water samples collected from Lake Shenandoah (Virginia, USA) were incubated with two concentrations of either ammonium, nitrate, or urea as a nitrogen source.

Juvenile sex offenders (JSO) are a specific subset of delinquent adolescents that are receiving more attention because of the crimes they commit and the issues surrounding how to successfully treat their deviant behaviors. Given JSO are such predominant treatment concerns in society, it is essential to identify and target key risk factors. One sexual behavior, bestiality, may be of particular importance to address in treatment.

Research has yet to examine the social influences of parents, peers, and partners on bullying. This study explored the impact of social relationships on bullies, victims, bully/victims, and uninvolved participants. A sample of 370 college-age participants was asked about bullying, family environment, friends' illegal behavior, and conflict resolution tactics in romantic relationships.

The World Health Organization estimates the world prevalence of viral hepatitis C at 3%. The advent of therapeutic regimens for viral hepatitis has made the liver biopsy a routine specimen in the surgical pathology laboratory. The clinician will need to know the degree and type of necroinflammatory activity and the presence and level of fibrosis, before making the decision to start therapy.
