Shiga toxin-producing (STEC) is a group of bacteria that causes gastrointestinal illness and occasionally causes large foodborne outbreaks. It represents a major public health concern due to its ability to cause severe illness which can sometimes be fatal. This study was undertaken as part of a rapid investigation into a national foodborne outbreak of STEC O145.

Poststroke hyperglycemia dysregulates cap-dependent translation in neural cells.

Aims: Post stroke hyperglycemia has been shown to deter functional recovery. Earlier findings have indicated the cap-dependent translation regulator 4E-BP1 is detrimentally upregulated in hyperglycemic conditions. The present study aims to test the hypothesis that hyperglycemic ischemic reperfusion injury (I/R) affects normal protein translation poststroke.

Hyperglycemia Inhibits AAA Expansion: Examining the Role of Lysyl Oxidase.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a common, progressive and potentially fatal dilation of the most distal aortic segment. Multiple studies with longitudinal follow-up of AAA have identified markedly slower progression among patients affected with diabetes. Understanding the molecular pathway responsible for the growth inhibition could have implications for therapy in nondiabetic AAA patients.

Optimizing Mainstreaming of Genetic Testing in Parallel With Ovarian and Endometrial Cancer Tumor Testing: How Do We Maximize Our Impact?

Purpose: Although germline genetic testing (GT) is recommended for all patients with ovarian cancer (OC) and some patients with endometrial cancer (EC), uptake remains low with multiple barriers. Our center performs GT in parallel with somatic testing via a targeted sequencing assay (MSK-IMPACT) and initiates testing in oncology clinics (mainstreaming). We sought to optimize our GT processes for OC/EC.

Impact of Medical Improvisation on Therapeutic Use of Self: A Randomized Controlled Waitlist Study.

Importance: The application of interpersonal skills is considered therapeutic use of self, a pillar of occupational therapy practice, and a required competency for occupational therapy education (American Occupational Therapy Association [AOTA], 2020). Medical improvisation (medical improv) uses the principles of improvisational theater to enhance professional competencies and shows promising results in health professions education (Gao et al., 2019).
