Pancreatic islet β-cells express the Cpt1a gene, which encodes the enzyme carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1A (CPT1A), an enzyme that facilitates entry of long chain fatty acids into the mitochondria. Because fatty acids are required for glucose-stimulated insulin secretion, we tested the hypothesis that CPT1A is essential to support islet β-cell function and mass. In this study, we describe genetic deletion of Cpt1a in pancreatic tissue (Cpt1a) using C57BL/6J mice.

Draft Genome Sequences of Six Strains Isolated from the Rhizosphere of Wheat Grown in Cadmium-Contaminated Soil.

This study presents high-quality draft genome assemblies of six bacterial strains isolated from the roots of wheat grown in soil contaminated with cadmium. The results of this study will help to elucidate at the molecular level how heavy metals affect interactions between beneficial rhizobacteria and crop plants.

Community-Guided Focus Group Analysis to Examine Cancer Disparities.

Background: Accountability for Cancer Care through Undoing Racism™ and Equity (ACCURE) is a systems-change intervention addressing disparities in treatment initiation and completion and outcomes for early stage Black and White breast and lung cancer patients. Using a community-based participatory research (CBPR) approach, ACCURE is guided by a diverse partnership involving academic researchers, a nonprofit community-based organization, its affiliated broader based community coalition, and providers and staff from two cancer centers.

Objectives: This paper describes the collaborative process our partnership used to conduct focus groups and to code and analyze the data to inform two components of the ACCURE intervention: 1) a "power analysis" of the cancer care system and 2) the development of the intervention's training component, Healthcare Equity Education and Training (HEET), for cancer center providers and staff.

Individual differences in faking integrity tests.

The present study assessed whether success at faking a commercially available integrity test relates to individual differences among the test takers. We administered the Reid Report, an overt integrity test, twice to a sample of college students with instructions to answer honestly on one administration and "fake good" on the other. These participants also completed a measure of general cognitive ability, the Raven Advanced Progressive Matrices.
