Substance use and mental health symptoms in adults with prenatal alcohol exposure.

Background: Substance use and mental health problems have been documented in individuals with prenatal alcohol exposure (PAE) in young adulthood, but little is known about how these patterns progress over time into midlife. The current study examined rates of substance use in a sample of adults with PAE in mid-life compared to a demographically similar contrast group.

Methods: Participants (n = 233) were drawn from two longitudinal cohorts of individuals recruited prenatally and followed into adulthood.

Generation of an iPSC line (with isogenic control) from the PBMCs of a COL6A1 (c.1056 + 2T > A) Bethlem myopathy patient.

To produce an in vitro model of Bethlem myopathy, we reprogrammed the peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of a patient with a heterozygous COL6A1 c.1056 + 2T > A mutation at the exon/intron 14 boundary of the COL6A1 gene to induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). Using CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, we corrected the mutation to generate an isogenic control line.

The 2024 Assisi think tank on breast cancer: Focus on the use of a tumour bed boost after breast conserving therapy.

At the Fifth Assisi Think Tank Meeting (ATTM) on breast cancer, one key topic was the role of tumor bed boost in invasive breast cancer and ductal carcinoma in situ. The need for a tumor bed boost after whole breast irradiation is controversial. A literature review assessed boost indications, target volume definition, techniques, dose fractionation, and ongoing trials.
