[Multilocular hepatic masses due to Enterobius vermicularis].

Infestation with Enterobius vermicularis involving extraintestinal manifestation is rare. In a 50-year-old man with lower abdominal pain, computed tomography led to a suspected diagnosis of sigmoid carcinoma with liver metastasis. After ruling out colon cancer by endoscopy, laparoscopic resection of one suspected tumor nodule in the liver was performed.

Terminal Alkenes from Acrylic Acid Derivatives via Non-Oxidative Enzymatic Decarboxylation by Ferulic Acid Decarboxylases.

Fungal ferulic acid decarboxylases (FDCs) belong to the UbiD-family of enzymes and catalyse the reversible (de)carboxylation of cinnamic acid derivatives through the use of a prenylated flavin cofactor. The latter is synthesised by the flavin prenyltransferase UbiX. Herein, we demonstrate the applicability of FDC/UbiX expressing cells for both isolated enzyme and whole-cell biocatalysis.

Pharyngeal amyloidomas: Variable appearance on imaging.

Amyloidomas are rare tumor-like depositions of abnormally folded, insoluble proteins that may be seen in the setting of systemic amyloidosis or as isolated tumoral deposits. Focal, isolated amyloidomas carry an excellent prognosis whereas systemic amyloidoses do not. The ability to identify or suggest amyloidoma on imaging studies may help direct laboratory testing and eventual diagnosis.

Understanding the impact of uveitis on health-related quality of life in adolescents.

Purpose: A reduction in quality of life (QoL) during an active phase of disease has been shown for patients with uveitis of various age groups. Adult uveitis patients were shown to also have reduced QoL-values despite disease being quiescent, but adolescents have not been investigated in this respect.

Methods: This clinic-based, cross-sectional pilot study assessed the overall health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in adolescents (11-18 years) with a history of inactive uveitis and good visual function.

Glutamine treatment attenuates endoplasmic reticulum stress and apoptosis in TNBS-induced colitis.

Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and apoptotic cell death play an important role in the pathogenesis and perpetuation of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). We aimed to explore the potential of glutamine to reduce ER stress and apoptosis in a rat model of experimental IBD. Colitis was induced in male Wistar rats by intracolonic administration of 30 mg of 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS).
