Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the prognostic value of (18)F-FDG PET performed at restaging in patients with locally advanced rectal cancer who previously underwent neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy.
Subjects And Methods: Eighty-eight patients with histologically proven rectal cancer classified at clinical TNM stages II and III were enrolled. Six weeks after radiochemotherapy completion, all patients were restaged by sonography, CT, MRI, endoscopy, and (18)F-FDG PET.

In this paper we review the controversies in diagnostic approaches to follicular thyroid nodules with indeterminate cytology. The authors consider some of the controversies surrounding the indeterminate follicular thyroid nodule, including the definition and the postoperative outcome. Among the techniques that may improve preoperative diagnostic accuracy are large needle aspiration biopsy and immunohistochemistry for galectin-3.

Methods: Prior to surgery 137 breast cancer patients underwent intrasubdermal injection of 30-50 MBq 99mTc-colloidal albumin over the tumour site (ISI group). Ten minutes before surgery, 2 ml patent blue was injected in the subareolar area (SAI group) in 117/137 patients, while 20 patients received intrasubdermal blue-dye in the quadrant opposite the tumour site (OQI group).
Multimodality treatment of loco-regional advanced rectal cancer has demonstrated to improve local control and overall survival. Proctoscopy, digital rectal examination (DRE), computer tomography (CT), endorectal ultrasound (ERUS), and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) cannot correctly detect downstaging in rectal tumors after chemo radiation therapy (CRT). New imaging techniques, like 18F-FDG PET, may play some role in predicting the pathologic response to CRT before surgical resection.

Material And Methods: Three different volumes, ie posterior pelvis, total mesorectal space, and gross tumor volume plus 2 cm, are selected to receive radiation doses of 47 Gy, 51 Gy, and 54 Gy, respectively, in 24 fractions. There are two prerequisites for the use of such a radiotherapy schedule: complete displacement of the small bowel outside the boost volume, and horizontal positioning of the rectal long axis.
