To what extent are barbers willing to act as allies in addressing the abuse of women within Black communities? The study focused on barbers primarily serving Black clients. To gage the cultural viability of utilizing barbershops as intervention sites for intimate partner violence, the authors of this article conducted surveys among barbers in Black communities. The surveys explored the barbers' interest in and capability to act as allies against violence targeting Black women.

Circularly polarized light is incident on a gold Archimedean spiral structure to generate surface-plasmon polaritons that interfere coherently at the center resulting in a 50 nm rms emission area. Such a nanostructured flat surface enables simultaneous spatiotemporal confinement of emitted electrons at the nanometer and femtosecond level and can be used as an advanced electron source for high-repetition-rate ultrafast electron diffraction and microscopy experiments as well as the next generation of miniaturized particle accelerators.

Methods: This study evaluated the efficacy of a 2021 6-week seminar-style course for medical students focused on five mental states through the lens of visual arts, film, and literature to impact student capabilities.
Background: Chronic pain and non-prescribed substance use are associated with lower retention in opioid use disorder (OUD) treatment. We examined the associations of perceived capacity to tolerate uncomfortable physical sensations (discomfort intolerance and discomfort avoidance) and cannabis and alcohol use among persons with chronic pain receiving prescription buprenorphine for OUD.
Methods: This study utilizes baseline data from 163 persons with chronic pain receiving prescription buprenorphine for OUD enrolled in the Treating Opioid use, Persistent Pain, and Sadness (TOPPS) intervention trial.
Extracellular Vesicles (EVs) are membrane-derived vesicles shed by cells into the extracellular space that play key roles in intercellular communication and other biological processes. As membrane-bound cargos of nucleic acids and other proteins that are abundantly found in virtually every biofluid including blood, urine, and saliva, EVs are widely regarded as promising biomarkers for disease detection. While it is an increasingly promising biofluid from which to isolate EVs, saliva poses challenges due its complexity and heterogeneity-cells, debris, and other proteins can inhibit the isolation of EVs by traditional platforms.
