Introduction: Several randomised controlled trials have demonstrated that novel oral anticoagulants are safer compared with vitamin K antagonists for the management of non-valvular atrial fibrillation (NVAF) to prevent thromboembolic events in the general population. There is a growing interest in the use of apixaban in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) undergoing peritoneal dialysis (PD) but there is a lack of randomised data in this population.

Methods And Analysis: APIDP2 is a prospective parallel, randomised, open-label, blinded endpoint trial involving patients with ESRD undergoing chronic PD who have NVAF.

DNA repair and autophagy are distinct biological processes vital for cell survival. Although autophagy helps maintain genome stability, there is no evidence of its direct role in the repair of DNA lesions. We discovered that lysosomes process topoisomerase 1 cleavage complexes (TOP1cc) DNA lesions in vertebrates.

Introduction: Significant results have been achieved using ultrasound-guided and ultrasound-assisted ablative techniques, such as Laser Thermal Ablation (LTA), Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA), High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU), and Microwave Ablation (MWA). These techniques are ideally suited for the treatment of normally functioning benign thyroid nodes with local compressive symptoms or aesthetic problems. These treatments have been applied to hyperfunctioning “hot” nodes.

Ultrasound-guided percutaneous Microwave Thermoablation (MWA) is an increasingly popular minimally invasive therapy for the treatment of benign thyroid nodules due to its remarkable heating velocity and resilience to heat sinking. We present a cohort of 26 patients (17 F, 9M, mean age 56.2yy) with 20 goiters (mean volume 34.

Here, we present a protocol describing the quantification of oxygen consumption rate (OCR) and maximal respiration rate (MRR) in living induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC)-derived neurons using the Seahorse analyzer. We guide you through the whole process: culture amplification and seeding of neural progenitor cells (NPCs), their differentiation into neurons, and normalization of the results to cell number in the analytical phase. The assessment of cellular mitochondrial function, by analyzing mitochondrial respiration, could be useful in various diseases as well as in drug screening.
