Long COVID (LC) is a complex multisymptom condition with no known disease-modifying treatments. This wait-list-controlled open-label trial tested whether a remotely delivered structured weight management program could improve respective LC symptoms in people living with overweight. Adults with LC (symptoms >12 weeks) and body mass index >27 kg m (>25 kg m for South Asians) were randomized (n = 234, 1:1) to control (n = 116, usual care) or the remotely delivered structured weight management (n = 118, total diet replacement (850 kcal per day) for 12 weeks, followed by food reintroduction and weight loss maintenance support) via minimization and randomization (80:20) to balance dominant LC symptom, sex, age, ethnicity and postcode-based index of multiple deprivation between groups.

Background: Patients with systemic right ventricle (SRV), either d-transposition of the great arteries following an atrial switch procedure or congenitally corrected transposition of the great arteries, develop severe right ventricular dysfunction, prompting appropriate medical therapy. However, the efficacy of beta-blockers and angiotensin receptor blockers or angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEI) in SRV patients is unproven.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the effects of ACEI/ARB and beta-blockers on outcomes in SRV patients after accounting for likely cofounders affecting their use.

Perioperative pain control in open cranial vault reconstruction (CVR) poses significant challenges. Narcotic use may confound signs of neurological deterioration and cause medication-induced complications. Previous studies have shown improved health outcomes in CVR with reduced narcotic use.

Introduction: Rates of morbidity and mortality are high in the setting of Fontan physiology and effective medical therapies are not well-established. Clinical trials assessing phosophodiesterase-5-inhibitors, such as sildenafil, have not demonstrated major benefit in patients with a Fontan-type circulation but have only included stable, well-functioning people.

Methods: We sought to retrospectively characterize the people followed by the ANZ Fontan Registry prescribed sildenafil >30 days post Fontan-surgery.

Background: Most preterm infants breathe spontaneously at birth. Despite this, the majority have a face mask immediately applied for breathing support. Face mask application may inhibit spontaneous breathing in newborn infants.
