Article Synopsis
  • * Mutations in Rab23, such as M12K, C85R, and Y79del, occur within its GTPase domain and affect its function, but the exact activation mechanisms and how these mutations lead to disease are not fully understood.
  • * High-resolution crystal structures of human Rab23 and the Y79del mutant have been determined, showing that the deletion leads to structural changes that disrupt its interactions with partners, contributing to its loss of function in Carpenter Syndrome.

In this analytical study, the fluid motion within a microchannel is induced by the oscillation of one surface parallel to the other stationary surface, termed the extended Stokes' problem. The novelty and research gap are acquiring the thermal effect of such motion due to the viscous dissipation or fluid friction, subject to symmetric isothermal boundary conditions. The study may shed light on the role of viscous dissipation in temperature rise in the synovial fluid of an artificial hip joint, or in the fluid layer of a mechanical bearing.

Using current water treatment systems, significant amounts of microplastics (MPs) are passing through and being released into the aquatic environment. However, we do not clearly know what effects disinfection processes have had on these particles. In this study, we applied inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) operating in time-resolved analysis (TRA) mode for quantifying changes in the chlorine (Cl) content of MPs under a variety of water treatment scenarios.

Analyses of gene-expression dynamics in research on circadian rhythms and sleep homeostasis often describe these two processes using separate models. Rhythmically expressed genes are, however, likely to be influenced by both processes. We implemented a driven, damped harmonic oscillator model to estimate the contribution of circadian- and sleep-wake-driven influences on gene expression.
