Article Synopsis
  • Glaucoma is a progressive eye condition linked to mitochondrial dysfunction that causes damage to retinal ganglion cells, and this review aims to explore the effect of daily niacin intake on this disease.
  • Five relevant studies were analyzed, revealing that individuals with higher niacin consumption were less likely to have glaucoma compared to those with lower intake, suggesting a possible protective effect of niacin.
  • However, due to variations in niacin intake, glaucoma definitions, and other influencing factors, further large-scale, controlled trials are necessary to definitively establish the benefits of niacin for glaucoma patients.

Aim: High-frequency ultrasound with an 18-MHz probe (18 MHz-HFUS) plays a relevant role in the evaluation of peripheral nerve injury (PNI). Ultrahigh-frequency ultrasound with a 70-MHz probe (70 MHz-UHFUS) offers higher spatial resolution and could allow a better detection of PNI. This study aimed to compare the diagnostic performance of HFUS and UHFUS in PNI detection.

Subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH) can be associated with neurological deficits and has profound consequences for mortality and morbidity. Cerebral vasospasm (CVS) and delayed cerebral ischemia affect neurological outcomes in SAH patients, but their mechanisms are not fully understood, and effective treatments are limited. Here, we report that urotensin II receptor UT plays a pivotal role in both early events and delayed mechanisms following SAH in male mice.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate functional and anatomical changes in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD) treated with a loading dose of faricimab intravitreal injections (IVIs).

Methods: Eighteen eyes of 18 patients with active macular neovascularization and nAMD were enrolled at the Ophthalmology Clinic of University G. D'Annunzio, Chieti-Pescara, Italy.

The synthesis and characterization of nine Schiff bases of pyrazolone ligands ( = 1-9) and the corresponding zinc(II) complexes - of composition [Zn(L)] ( = 1-9) are reported. The molecular structures of complexes , , , , and were determined by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, highlighting in all cases a distorted tetrahedral geometry around the Zn(II) ion. Density functional theory studies are performed on both the ligands and the derived complexes.
