Pancreaticoduodenectomy after Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and novel endoscopic ultrasound-directed transgastric ERCP procedure.

Performing a pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) in patients having undergone a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RNYGB) poses a significant surgical challenge. We present a patient with a history of RNYGB and endoscopic ultrasound-directed transgastric ERCP (EDGE) procedure who underwent a successful PD. This 77-year-old female with history of open RNYBG presented with resectable pancreatic adenocarcinoma.

Effect of Periodontal Instrumentation on Tooth Structure Exposure to Ionizing Radiation: In Vitro Study.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different scaling protocols on the morphology and roughness of the root dentin substrate exposure to ionizing radiation. One hundred and thirty extracted bovine incisors were randomly divided into two groups (n=65): non-irradiated (NIR) and irradiated (IR). Each group was initially subdivided into three subgroups according to the type of non-surgical periodontal protocol: NIT: no instrumentation; HS: hand scaling with 15 apical-coronal instrument movements; US: ultrasonic scaling with 15 apical-coronal cycles.

Background: Managing complex traumatic soft tissue wounds involving a large surface area while attempting to optimize healing, avoid infection, and promote favorable cosmetic outcomes is challenging. Regenerative materials such as ECMs are typically used in wound care to enhance the wound healing response and proliferative phase of tissue formation.

Secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in children (Review).

Hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is a rare, life-threatening condition characterized by hyperinflammation in an uncontrolled and ineffective immune response. Despite great improvement in diagnosis and treatment, it still represents a challenge in clinical management, with poor prognosis in the absence of an aggressive therapeutic approach. The present literature review focuses on secondary HLH at pediatric age, which represents a heterogeneous group in terms of etiology and therapeutic approach.
