Identifying the scaling rules describing ecological patterns across time and space is a central challenge in ecology. Taylor's law of fluctuation scaling, which states that the variance of a population's size or density is proportional to a positive power of the mean size or density, has been widely observed in population dynamics and characterizes variability in multiple scientific domains. However, it is unclear if this phenomenon accurately describes ecological patterns across many orders of magnitude in time, and therefore links otherwise disparate observations.

Latex-based nanocomposites containing carboxylated cellulose nanocrystals (cCNCs) were synthesized via in situ seeded semibatch emulsion polymerization. Inspired by nature's use of CNCs to enhance rigidity and mechanical strength in cellulosic materials, we explored similar principles to improve the properties of acrylate water-based coatings. The cCNCs, loaded at 0.

Background: The Abdominal Compartment Society (WSACS) established consensus definitions and recommendations for the management of intra-abdominal hypertension (IAH) and abdominal compartment syndrome (ACS) in 2006, and they were last updated in 2013. The WSACS conducted an international survey between 2022 and 2023 to seek the agreement of healthcare practitioners (HCPs) worldwide on current and new candidate statements that may be used for future guidelines.

Methods: A self-administered, online cross-sectional survey was conducted under the auspices of the WSACS to assess the level of agreement among HCPs over current and new candidate statements.

Article Synopsis
  • Dengue is a viral infection that can be mild or severe, and this study focused on pediatric cases during an outbreak in Buenos Aires from March to May 2023.
  • A total of 112 patients were evaluated, mostly boys around 12 years old, with common symptoms including fever, headache, and muscle pain; leukopenia and elevated liver enzymes were the frequent lab findings.
  • Early identification of clinical signs and lab results related to more severe cases is crucial for effective treatment, but no severe dengue cases were reported in this study.

Background: HIV clinical guidelines recommend hypertension detection and management to lower cardiovascular disease risk, but these have not been effectively implemented for people living with HIV (PWH). Addressing this implementation gap requires community-engaged implementation studies focused on addressing implementation barriers specific to the HIV care context.

Methods: This protocol describes a type 2 effectiveness-implementation hybrid study conducted in nine primary care clinics in Johannesburg.
