This article presents the case of a 43-year-old male patient with recurrent painful swelling of the right submandibular gland. Submandibulectomy was performed. Histological investigations showed an intense granulomatous inflammation with severe destruction of the parenchyma.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA number of highly specific small molecule inhibitors of oncogenic tyrosine kinases have been developed and may potentially improve the treatment of different malignant diseases. However, it became rapidly evident that multiple resistance mechanisms compromise the successful clinical application of these inhibitors, particularly in advanced solid tumors. To develop efficient therapeutic strategies with small molecule inhibitors, one must understand the causes for treatment failure.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA phase I study of the bispecific antibody MDX-H210 in combination with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) was performed in stage IV breast carcinoma patients, overexpressing HER-2/neu. MDX-H210, constructed by crosslinking antigen binding fragments (F(ab') fragments) of monoclonal antibody (mAb) H22 to Fc gamma receptor I (FcgammaRI), and mAb 520C9 to HER-2/neu, respectively, mediates the lysis of tumour cells in vitro, and in human FcgammaRI transgenic mouse models. The proto-oncogene HER-2/neu is overexpressed in approximately 30% of breast cancer patients, and represents a promising target for antibody-based immunotherapy.

We report the case of a patient with verapamil overdose as a result of this. This case illustrates that the use of trade names, omitting the international nonproprietary names of the active moiety, carries the risk of serious adverse drug events by overdose.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFCGP 57148 is a potent inhibitor of the ABL protein tyrosine kinase and a promising new compound for the treatment of a variety of BCR-ABL-positive leukemias. We used this enzyme inhibitor to characterize the biological effects of BCR-ABL in primary cells and two growth factor-dependent BCR-ABL-transfected cell lines. The effect of CGP 57148 on primary cells is dependent on the stage of differentiation.
