Influence of the Results of Control of Intakes, Proteins and Anthropometry Nutritional Screening, Sarcopenia and Body Composition on the Clinical Evolution of Hospitalized Patients.

(1) Background: Hospital malnutrition and sarcopenia are common in inpatients and are associated with worse prognosis. Our objective is to determine the association of the positivity of CIPA (Control of Intakes, Proteins and Anthropometry) nutrition screening tool and sarcopenia and evaluate its prognostic implications (length of stay, readmissions and mortality) as well as different components of body composition. (2) Methodology: Cross-sectional single-center study and prospective six months follow-up for prognostic variables.

Species composition, toxigenic potential and aggressiveness of Fusarium isolates causing Head Blight of barley in Uruguay.

Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) is a major constraint to barley production that substantially reduces yield and grain quality. FHB is also a major food safety concern because FHB pathogens contaminate grain with trichothecenes and other mycotoxins. DNA sequence-based analyses and in-vitro toxin assessments were used to characterize the species and trichothecene chemotype composition of FHB pathogens on barley in Uruguay.

Methadone implants for methadone maintenance treatment. In vitro and in vivo animal studies.

Methadone implant formulations elaborated with polylactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) and polylactic acid (PLA) for 1 week and 1 month release duration, respectively, were evaluated in vitro and in vivo. One-week implants prepared with methadone clorhydrate, methadone clorhydrate/methadone base blend or methadone base were tested in vitro. Results showed that the methadone release rate decreased as the methadone base increased.

Chromosome 2 reciprocal congenic strains to evaluate the effect of the genetic background on blood pressure.

The localisation of quantitative trait loci (QTL) is the first step towards gene identification. This is then verified by the construction of reciprocal congenic strains. The hypertensive SHRSP and normotensive WKY strains were used in a speed congenic approach to confirm the existence of a QTL on rat chromosome 2.

Endoplasmic reticulum stress prolongs GH-induced Janus kinase (JAK2)/signal transducer and activator of transcription (STAT5) signaling pathway.

The desensitization of the GH-induced Janus kinase 2 (JAK2) and signal transducer and activator of transcription 5 (STAT5) signaling pathway plays a crucial role in GH regulation of hepatic genes. Previous studies have demonstrated that the inactivation of the GH-induced JAK2/STAT5 pathway is regulated by protein translation and suppressors of cytokine signaling (SOCS). In this study we sought to explore the relationships between endoplasmic reticulum stress, GH-induced JAK2/STAT5 activity and SOCS expression.
