Geographical distribution and the impact of socio-environmental indicators on incidence of Mpox in Ontario, Canada.

Background: Ontario, being one of Canada's largest provinces, has been central to the high incidence of human Mpox. Research is scarce on how socio-environmental factors influence Mpox incidences. This study seeks to explore potential geographical correlations and the relationship between indicators of social marginalization and Mpox incidence rate in Ontario.

Impact of viral load on sample pooling for reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction detection-based diagnosis of coronavirus disease 2019 in Nigeria.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic strained diagnostic testing capacities globally, particularly in low- and middle-income countries like Nigeria. Reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) remains the gold standard for COVID-19 detection, but limited testing resources caused bottlenecks in Nigeria's response during the pandemic. Sample pooling offers a cost-effective strategy to enhance testing capacity during future outbreaks.

Solidified reverse micellar solution-based chitosan-coated solid lipid nanoparticles as a new approach to enhance oral delivery of artemether in malaria treatment.

Solidified reverse micellar technology and surface-modification are promising techniques for improving the biopharmaceutical properties of poorly water-soluble drugs such as artemether, a first-line antimalarial drug. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop and evaluate artemether-loaded chitosan-coated solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs) based on solidified reverse micellar solution (SRMS) for improved oral malaria therapy. Artemether-loaded and unloaded SLNs were prepared from optimized SRMS (consisting of Phospholipon 90G and Compritol ATO 888 at 3:7 ratio) with or without chitosan by high-shear melt-homogenization, and thereafter characterized for physicochemical performance, stability, safety and antimalarial activity using Plasmodium berghei-infected mice.

Background: Rifampicin, an antibiotic used in the treatment of tuberculosis has raised concerns about its potential liver and kidney toxicity.

Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the protective effects of Aloe vera against hepatorenal toxicity induced by rifampicin in male Wistar rats.

Methods: Thirty rats were divided into six groups (n = 5): group A (control), group B treated with rifampicin, groups C-E treated with varying doses (50, 100, and 200 mg/kg) of Aloe vera alongside rifampicin as well as a group F treated with furosemide and rifampicin for a total of 30 days.

The role of pharmacological interventions in managing urological complications during pregnancy and childbirth: A review.

Pregnancy leads to a number of structural and functional changes in the urinary system, which makes females susceptible to urological complications. This review aims to discuss the epidemiology, complications and prevention and management of urinary tract infections (UTIs), kidney stones and bladder dysfunction in pregnancy. UTIs are the most common urological problem presenting in 10% of pregnant women; Escherichia coli is the most common causative organism.
