The IUSM Medical Education Scholarly Concentration: Training Medical Students to Become Future Clinical Educators.

Indiana University School of Medicine - Bloomington launched the Medical Education Scholarly Concentration in 2020. This application-based enrichment program trains medical students to become effective clinical educators through pedagogical coursework, introduction to education research methods, and the development of a scholarly concentration product for publication.

Diabetes, metformin use and risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma in postmenopausal women: A prospective cohort analysis in the Women's Health Initiative.

Epidemiologic evidence is limited about associations between T2DM, metformin, and the risk of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL). We aimed to examine associations between T2DM, metformin, and the risk of NHL in the Women's Health Initiative (WHI) Study. Information on T2DM status (diabetes status/types of antidiabetic drug use/diabetes duration) from study enrollment and during follow-up were assessed.

Dysbiosis of gut microbiota is associated with many pathologies, yet host factors modulating microbiota remain unclear. Interstitial cystitis/bladder pain syndrome (IC/BPS) is a debilitating condition of chronic pelvic pain often with comorbid urinary dysfunction and anxiety/depression, and recent studies find fecal dysbiosis in patients with IC/BPS. We identified the locus encoding acyloxyacyl hydrolase, , as a modulator of pelvic pain severity in a murine IC/BPS model.

Understanding the pathophysiology behind chairside diagnostics and genetic testing for IL-1 and IL-6.

In order for chairside diagnostic testing to make an impact on dental therapy, practitioners require a better understanding of genetic mutations contributing to the pathophysiology of periodontal disease. Commensal and pathogenic bacterial colonization in oral cavity tissues produces a cascade of proinflammatory signaling pathways ultimately detrimental to host tissues. Resolving inflammation is a multifactorial process involving the downregulation of proinflammatory cytokines while allowing commensal bacterial levels to return to normal.
