Article Synopsis
  • - Growth hormone treatment has evolved from using pituitary-derived GH for specific cases of GH deficiency to recombinant human GH (rhGH), which is now approved for various disorders beyond just GH deficiency.
  • - RhGH significantly helps improve short stature in GH-deficient patients and has positive effects on metabolic and bone health, with long-term safety studies showing encouraging results, particularly for those with isolated GHD.
  • - New long-acting rhGH formulations are being developed to enhance adherence to treatment and lessen the burden on patients, while ongoing surveillance is needed for safety in higher doses or other clinical conditions.

Freshwater and groundwater are important resources for the drinking water supporting agricultural and livestock activities in the Córdoba province, Argentina. The aim of this study was to assess the physicochemical and microbiological quality of surface water (n = 14) and groundwater (n = 17) sites in the middle-lower basin of the Ctalamochita River (Córdoba, Argentina) for human and animal consumption. A total of 18 physicochemical and five microbiological parameters were evaluated to determine the hydrogeological characteristics of both water resources and their suitability for human and animal consumption using the Water Quality Index (WQI).

Article Synopsis
  • Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune disease tied to oxidative stress, which affects mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) levels and their homeostasis.
  • The study analyzed mtDNA copies and gene expression related to mitochondrial functions in blood cells from SLE patients and healthy individuals, finding significantly lower mtDNA copies and reduced expression of key mitochondrial genes in patients.
  • A positive correlation was identified between the expression of the PRKN2 gene and mtDNA copy number, highlighting the potential link between mitochondrial dysfunction and SLE progression.

Background: Soybean is a worldwide-cultivated crop due to its applications in the food, feed, and biodiesel industries. Genome editing in soybean began with ZFN and TALEN technologies; however, CRISPR/Cas has emerged and shortly became the preferable approach for soybean genome manipulation since it is more precise, easy to handle, and cost-effective. Recent reports have focused on the conventional Cas9 nuclease, Cas9 nickase (nCas9) derived base editors, and Cas12a (formally Cpf1) as the most commonly used genome editors in soybean.

The global demand for valuable metals and minerals necessitates the exploration of alternative, sustainable approaches to mineral recovery. Seawater mining has emerged as a promising option, offering a vast reserve of minerals and an environmentally friendly alternative to land-based mining. Among the various techniques, Nanofiltration (NF) has gained significant attention as a preliminary treatment step in Minimum Liquid Discharge (MLD) and Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) schemes.
