Female representation in orthopedic surgery: where do we stand in Belgium ?

Female underrepresentation in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology is a well-known issue worldwide, including in Belgium. Most of the literature comes from northern America. This two-part study aims to quantify the female workforce in orthopedic surgery in Belgium and assess the presence of unconscious biases among active orthopedic surgeons.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection of a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty: a case report.

We describe the case of a 78-years-old male with dyspnea, inappetence and weight loss over a period of two weeks. The CT scan suggested disseminated tuberculosis and T5-T6 spondylodiscitis. During hospitalization, he developed a left shoulder pain where a reverse total shoulder arthroplasty was implanted 11 years ago.

Widespread presentation of brown tumors mimicking multiple myeloma.

Brown tumors or osteitis fibrosa cystica has become a rare presentation of primary hyperparathyroidism in up-to-date clinical practice. Here, we describe a case of longstanding untreated hyperparathyroidism presenting itself with brown tumors in a 65-year-old patient. During the diagnostic work-up of this patient, bone SPECT/CT and F-FDG-PET/CT revealed multiple widespread osteolytic lesions.

Review of Sterilization Techniques for Medical and Personal Protective Equipment Contaminated With SARS-CoV-2.

The outbreak of the novel coronavirus disease, COVID-19 turned into a global pandemic in March 2020. During these unprecedented times, there is an increased demand in medical and personal protective equipment (PPE). Since the supplies may take a long time to meet the global demand, reusing PPEs will help health care workers in their response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Application of radiochromic gel dosimetry to commissioning of a megavoltage research linear accelerator for small-field animal irradiation studies.

Purpose: To develop and implement an efficient and accurate commissioning procedure for small-field static beam animal irradiation studies on an MV research linear accelerator (Linatron-M9) using radiochromic gel dosimetry.

Materials: The research linear accelerator (Linatron-M9) is a 9 MV linac with a static fixed collimator opening of 5.08 cm diameter.
