Unlabelled: Most of the current assays directed at the investigation of HIV reactivation are based on cultures of infected cells such as Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMCs) or isolated CD4 T cells, stimulated in vitro with different activator molecules. The culture media in these in vitro tests lack many age- and donor-specific immunomodulatory components normally found within the autologous plasma. This triggered our interest in understanding the impact that different matrices and cell types have on T cell transcriptional profiles following in vitro culture and stimulation.

Patients affected by Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) present higher risk for infection and suboptimal response upon vaccination. The immunogenicity of SARS-CoV2 vaccination is still largely unknown in adolescents or young adults affected by IBD (pIBD). We investigated the safety and immunogenicity of the BNT162B2 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine in 27 pIBD, as compared to 30 healthy controls (HC).

Maintaining hematocrit (Hct) levels below 45% can reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with polycythemia vera (PV). A device that patients can use to self-monitor Hct levels could enable timely interventions if Hct levels increase above 45%, and could improve quality of life (QoL). This study evaluated the accuracy of the StatStrip Xpress® 2 LAC/Hb/Hct meter (Hb/Hct meter) when used by healthcare professionals (HCPs) or patients in clinical practice.

Background: Immunization of vulnerable populations with distinct immunity often results in suboptimal immunogenicity, durability, and efficacy.

Methods: Safety and immunogenicity profiles of BNT162b2 messenger RNA coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine, among people living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), were evaluated in 28 perinatally HIV-infected patients under antiretroviral therapy (ART) and 65 healthy controls (HCs) with no previous history of COVID-19. Thus, we measured severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-specific humoral and CD4+ T cell responses.

Background: Unstable hemoglobinopathies are rare inherited disorders of hemoglobin causing a reduction of hemoglobin molecule solubility. This results in an unstable hemoglobin tetramer/globin polypeptide, which precipitates within the red blood cell. Affected red blood cells have a reduced lifespan due to oxidative stress and cellular rigidity, and tend to be phagocytized by spleen macrophages more rapidly.
