A scoping review of interventions to address TB associated respiratory disability.

There is a growing body of data describing a high burden of respiratory morbidity amongst pulmonary TB patients and survivors, with up to half thought to experience residual respiratory symptoms, abnormal spirometry, or structural pathology after TB treatment completion. Many patients experiencing marked impacts on their lives and livelihoods. However, there remain no guidelines or evidence-based frameworks for integrated TB-respiratory care during or post TB treatment completion.

The Importance of Culturally Relevant Breast Clinic Navigation in Improving Breast Cancer Care in Africa.

Objective: Cultural norms, community-specific cultural or religious beliefs, and resultant patient health-belief models are known to pose a significant but imperceptible barrier to breast cancer care. However, there is a paucity of data addressing the need for culturally relevant breast clinic navigation in the context of culturally diverse regions. Thus, this study aimed to assess the benefit of culturally similar breast clinic navigators in facilitating treatment adherence and improving overall care in patients.

Nutritional status and outcome of surgery: A prospective observational cohort study of children at a tertiary surgical hospital in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Background: Undernutrition contributes to nearly 50% of all child deaths in the world, yet there is conflicting evidence regarding the association between nutritional status and postoperative complications. The aim was to describe the preoperative nutritional status among pediatric surgery patients in Zimbabwe, and to assess if nutritional status was a risk factor for adverse postoperative outcome of mortality, surgical site infection, reoperation, readmission, and longer length of stay.

Methods: This prospective observational cohort study included 136 children undergoing surgery at a tertiary pediatric hospital in Zimbabwe.

Ileo-sigmoid knotting: the Parirenyatwa hospital experience.

Background: Ileo-sigmoid knotting is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction with a rapidly progressive course, for which expedient surgical intervention is required to prevent mortality. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics, presentation, morbidity and mortality associated with ileo-sigmoid knotting at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals (PGH). To determine the preoperative diagnostic precision and management patterns of ileo-sigmoid knotting cases at PGH.

Exploring the Impact of COVID-19 on Progress Towards Achieving Global Surgery Goals.

Introduction: In the 5 months since it began, the COVID-19 pandemic has placed extraordinary demands on health systems around the world including surgery. Competing health objectives and resource redeployment threaten to retard the scale-up of surgical services in low- and middle-income countries where access to safe, affordable and timely care is low. The key aspiration of the Lancet Commission on global surgery was promotion of resilience in surgical systems.
